New battery time, but how big?
Hi all,
My 2015 2.2 battery is on its way out, I have aftermarket security which means it goes flat after a short while and after this happening a few times over the years combined with my short journeys it’s now struggling, barely even lasting a week. I’m after recommendations for a bigger battery that can hold up to infrequent use, and hold a charge longer with accessories attached such as my security. I appreciate I need to get a charger too and that’s on the list, but I don’t want to have the truck plugged in all day every day either, so looking for maybe a deep cycle/leisure type battery that can take a bit of abuse?
Any advice greatly appreciated!

we use this at work

you can then take the info and cross reference it to other makes and brands
we have just swapped a 3yr old one that failed under warranty no issue

Ok thanks mate, just put the info in and the upgrade they recommend is available from GSF for 113 quid which is a bit of a bargain! Hope it does the job now lol 2009 Defender County Hard Top (gone 😞)

Yep 019 is the way to go.
Our 2008 Puma 2.4 is still on it's original battery. At the onset of each winter I keep saying that I must change it, but I never do. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

so do I.

I'm just wondering, if it might go flat suddenly ...

It won't go 'flat suddenly' but what will happen is that one day as the battery capacity and performance declines, the lines will cross on the graph that shows the battery's ability to deliver cold cranking amps versus the engine's need for them, usually on a cold morning when the battery is less capable and the engine is most demanding, and then it won't start, which is much the same level of irritation as being completely flat!

I used to run a business that sold batteries in a previous life, and you could wake up on the first properly cold morning of winter and know that you'd sell a week's worth of batteries in one day. ---

If you really want a lot more capacity, with not much effort, you can fit two standard size batteries alongside each other in the seat box and connect them in parallel. You would need to rehome the jack and wheel chock. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

I see the Exide ones seem to have 50 extra CCA over factory. Mines also the factory fit battery, staggering how well and how long they have lasted so well!

Only thing that concerns me a bit is that the battery posts have the same footprint and will lock in the tray too.

Otherwise, the post clamps won’t fit, or the clamps on the tray. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

05 TD5 on 212K miles and just starting to die, alternator died this week and it did not last long on just the battery.
