Low power in 6th gear
Hi,
My defender td4 puma has a similar problem. Good power and rev pick up in gear 1 to 5. Changing gear from 5 to 6 the rev drop from 3000 rpm to 2000 rpm and stay there. It takes forever to rev. up. to 2500 rpm.
Feels like the car almost stops changing from 5 to 6.

All this happened after the engine was rebuilt, new vgt turbo installed and new remap (BAS remap, BAS hybrid turbo).

MAF, MAP, all sensor are good. BAS and my mechanic don't have an explanation. Spent over 15K for the engine rebuilt and end up with a car that's dangerous to drive on the motorway.

Does anyone have what could be the cause of this or have a solution to this problem.

my defender puma 90 2.4 does the same in 6th gear when I press the accelerator pedal below 2000 it's as if I'm accelerating in a vacuum. but I think I have found the problem it is a lack of fuel tank clogged for the moment I have sent injector cleaner, antibacterial water dispersant several times, I have an improvement but not completely I must still have dirt in the tank I also changed the fuel filter several times but the best would be to drop the tank to clean it

Has any one been able to resolve the low power in 6th gear issue?

I have replaced the VCV valve and no improvement.

Have you checked your hoses for splits? Sounds like it could possibly be a split in the hose to your turbo?

Thank you for the replies.
I have checked the hoses, have done a pressure test on the boost system, while the engine is off.
It doesn't have any leaks.

When I drive the vehicle, it performs well, until I go up an uphill, then it looses power and then when
one feathers the throttle it increases the performance again.

When running diagnostics I can see that when this occurs the fuel rail pressure drops to +-1200bar from +-1600bar.

My 2.4 Puma pulls like the proverbial train from about 1100 rpm, and pulls well in all gears including 6th. It has an early (c.2010) BAS remap, from the days before Pete offered two power options, and it was pretty feeble before this. The map's been on for 13 years and over 210k miles.

I don't think I've ever revved the engine over 3k and I'm not sure I'd want to.
