2006 Defender 110 Td5 USW Zermatt Silver
I’m surprised reading this.
I’ve had a Td5 90 that I swapped the gearing on (so drove it with standard, and regeared), then a crappy Tdci, and now a Td5 with the standard gearing, and very much thinking I need to regear it as all the gears are too low, and that’s on a 110.

On the times I’ve towed heavy stuff, low range, then flick across to high if required.

Wowed by the idea I’ve got the correct gearing currently

Ohhh and I don’t do long runs or motorways with it.

It depends on what you do with the car.

If it's just driving around on tarmac, the 1.2 will make is easier. If you are doing a lot of towing, then maybe the stock ratio works out better.

I've swapped over to a disco box and never looked back, it's really a better drive and less drone on the motorway.
Sure, a remap always will make it less laborious when pulling away.

If you have cruise control enabled, it won't work after the swap until you put in something like a speedohealer as the RPM of the engine will not match the t-box road speed pulse wave so the cruise control won't latch.

The TdCi transfer box is 1.211 while a the disco box is 1.222, won't make a big difference, but technically that's what it is. From the land of the most expensive land rover defenders on planet earth. At 125k for a XS 110 csw and you get to own it only for 10yrs! Please find me a good reason to stay on this island.
