Identifying a sensor on the lower part of the engine

Hello, whilst looking for the starting problem the other day I came across this sensor with no plug in, I can’t even find a lead for it! Or is it supposed to be unused? Any ideas cheers.

Thanks, I can’t find the lead that goes to it! Should it be plugged in? 😱 2007 2.4 90 fettled & remapped.

2007 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Java Black

I wonder if this was not used because the Defender is expected to be used at extreme angles off road and it would trigger false low level warnings? Just a thought, but it could explain why something potentially very useful in protecting your engine is not used. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Interestingly I have a cable plugged in there, but mine's a 2.2.

2015 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 SW Keswick Green

According to the MY2012 workshop manual it‘s an oil level AND temperature sensor, of which only the temperature is used.

It’s connected to the ECM with black a 3 pin connector (C2257)
