How to remove gear from wiper assembly
Because I had a stuck wiper I disassembled the dash (after 7 times i got quiet good at it Rolling with laughter ) and got the wiper assembly out. Everything was full of gunk so i thought to give everything a good clean and fresh Grease. But i can’t get the gear out of the wiper motor. Just bang harder Or is there a clever tip?

I don't think the big gear can be easily removed. When I last did one, I flushed it with degreaser in situ. Darren

Like Anorak I tried this a few years ago and eventually decided it was not a serviceable item so just flushed it out with degreasant and repacked with grease before putting the cover back on.

I remember searching You Tube - there were plenty of instructions regarding overhauling the motor but nothing about removing the main gear. Defender 90XS SW

Is this particular to newer vehicles? I know I've had one out of a Tdi-era Defender before. I don't remember any problems with that. Donald

Oh well, I'm afraid I can't help any further then.

I know I had mine removed because I had to relocate the nylon 'ramp' which activates the wiper stop switch (I think there are two places it can fit on the drive cog). I don't remember any real issues at all. I assume I removed the circlip on the wiring side, and tapped it through. Donald

It looks to me like it's a press fit with a bearing in the outer housing, you would need a puller but as the fitting likely would have had the pressure applied to the centre of the gear I'd be concerned a puller putting force on the outer edges of the gear would bend it being weaker towards the extremity.

Earlier models had the gear retained by a circlip - looks like they've moved to a press-fit shaft.

I replaced the 1987 motor in my mini with a later unbranded version (2004)that looks very much like yours, and i'm sure the lucas version just pushed out, But that was 15 years ago since I did that. I don't think there made my lucas anymore anyway. 1953 80"

Maybe do you a swap if you can wait?? I bought a new one for my car - and it's too short! It was one of those 'this part has been superceded by...' things, so I just bought the latest one and it's too short for a Tdi.

Sorry but i can’t wait. I’ve a puma and the complete dash is out for this repair. And i want to use the car for the weekend.

I’ve ordered it at LR direct if that’s any help a defender from 1984 pretending to be a puma with a touch of Range Rover
