I have had some down time, after loosing my buddy, now i am back on it, I have decided to get on and sort this bloody oil leak, The oil filter housing has failed, so i managed to find a replacement unit,
![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge the old one looking a right mess ![]() Click image to enlarge After looking at where things were, i ended up having to drop the oil out and change the filters. Due to where the bolts were located for this. removed and a good spray down with brake cleaner and carb cleaner ![]() Click image to enlarge A bit of a battle getting that out was it not! ![]() Click image to enlarge A battle getting the replacement back in too. ![]() Click image to enlarge I changed the filter in this, i think the old one had been over tightened, which ![]() But now its nice to have a clean engine bay on one side! I am not sure about tackling the starter motor job, as it seems to be throwing over fine now?? Also i revamped the rear anti roll bar, My dad was right about him suspecting it had seized, and which would explain why the driver side damper failed twice. Me and my dad had made a start on replacing the rear dampers, and i decided to replace everything with polybushes. I had left him in charge on removing the exhaust back box while i was at work, and he had removed the old units ready for me to jump on it after i finished work. As the 306s clutch was on the verge of going, ( well i thought) So the rear end of the defender is now sorted out. with bliestines ( spelling) new droplinks and polybushes. I have the front do to, which i may role out in the next few weeks, as i wanted to sort the leak out 1st. As i think the oil maybe causing the electrical problems. ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge its going to have to have a new rear crossmember on, as the driver side mudflap has gone lol. The MOT tester said he knew who could sort that, when i can the wages. While i am on a 4 day week i thought i will start and utilize the time off, after having a flick through some idea on peoples threads, I had a look at our LandRoverAnorak's 110 thread, and spotted the fender seal, so i thought i am doing that to this, paid a few quid for these, but i could get hold of them with out any bother oddly enough.
![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge a little bit of a tight fit here on the TD5, but a little bit of a play about and it was in. ![]() Click image to enlarge Driver side is no bother at all ![]() Click image to enlarge also these were the very last car gift one of my mates ever gave me, Sadly he died 3 months ago, These were for the rear speakers, but i thought id put them in the front. They are very thin sounding, compared to my pioneers, but again they were free and more powerful watt wise to what i had in. But the speaker fronts look nicer. ( my buddy though did have a collection of speakers, when we moved his stuff to his daughters ![]() ![]() ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge Now i have had these rear mud speaker pods since i bought BeaTie, i did have some before, that one of the lads on here made an offer for them, when my 300 TDI was nicked. So i thought sod it these are going in as i am sick of looking at the box! Not as plug in play as they say like! Well if have a D with rear seats etc fitted! My mam decided to lend a hand here, ![]() Click image to enlarge I have water coming in there like, so i suspect the capping or the seal has gone. ![]() Click image to enlarge After my mam did a lot of trimming, sneaking up on getting it to fit. ![]() Click image to enlarge It wont need any screws in place yet as its that stiff of a fitting. The other side is to be done, but again i will have to disconnect the wiring from the metal cover on the drive side. Looks like there are some wires for rear speakers oddly enough, But not sure if they are at the front of the motor. I have wiring to run to the rear. For the last couple of years the condition of bull bar has been bugging me, and my dad picking at it every bloody time, saying it needs fixing it need fixing. I had a chat with the MOT tester who is in the knock a little about body work, He looked at and said that the bull bar is beyond eco repair, and it would be a pain to repair. So i decided after getting the wages back up, to look for a replacement one, I cannot get one like i had, on my old TDI and my parents. The seller no longer produces them, so i must have been lucky there to get hold of one, then. So after a bit of a research a couple close examples have popped up. One with a bumper went for £500, which i was keen on, as it would have saved me getting hold of another bumper. Another 2 popped up, both sold, but the one i managed to get hold of, was cheaper and i have to say just as good a condition if not a little better.
I couldn't take many photos, as i was fighting the rain. It was on and off, so it was a sake of slacking bolts, then go in the washhouse, come back out and do a bit again. Where its proper rotten ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge the replacement one ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge This one weighs a little bit more than my old one, its in better nick but could do with a paint, I had to install it, as would not have heard the last of it, from my dad. The front bumper is toast like so i will be getting a replacement one. But i need to get the 306 sorted out, wheels wise. which i am looking at £400 onwards. New tyres and wheels sorted for it, plus i am looking at another repair. Beatie started to have a bit of a starting issue, with the click, click then fire into life. It went away but came back to bite me big style. i had to ask for a EM hol in, as i wasn't sure if it was going to start for work, and with the 306 out of action, i wouldn't have got in.
Luckly i had the 306 booked in for friday to be sorted, which i managed to get in on my day off, so the lad could make a start on it earlier, and do some extra jobs for me, that i was going to do, but with the loss of my buddy and my dads car been out of action, i had to bring that forward. The starter was a bastid to access, due to the under guards, Cut me to pieces! I followed a video step by step, and i enjoyed it. the state of the starter motor contacts. ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge No photos of the job, due to the heat, and i needed to push on, as i had to have Beatie back in action for mam to use. We were practically down to no cars! Once this was back in, after a barney lining the thing back up. All is sweet as a nut. ![]() The 306 is also sorted now, with everything it needed too ![]() In the words of my Good Friend, Gary Forrest 1980 -2025 " we will work something out" |

BeaTie's passenger door has been a nightmare to shut from the inside, been like that practically since i got her, but its got worse. So with me been off, i tackled what the crack was, and came a cross this, and Christ its full of none setting sealant.
![]() Click image to enlarge So the door frame has failed on this side, and he has had a go at sorting it out, and he has used the door card and fittings to assist it, which have decided to fail, the inner seal was only keeping stuff in line. So i removed the little plate, and installed it behind the failure, and screw it in place a long with the bolt. Metal glued the crack, and put the door back together, So of the door card fixings are ![]() My little bit repair, ![]() Click image to enlarge See how long it lasts better than it was ![]() In the words of my Good Friend, Gary Forrest 1980 -2025 " we will work something out" |

The other night, when i was taxi for my mates wedding night. I Dropped off one of my buddies and his Mrs. 1st time she has been in a Landy let a lone took much notice of them, she said what an interesting ride. Anyway when i got home, i got a strong smell of diesel, i was like ok what's going on here! had a look around, and i thought have i over filled it, and when i have gone over the speed bumps its chucked it out. Went to pick the wheels up for the defender, and i saw a wet spot again, i was like right something isnt right here! Has a look around further, and the fuel filter had decided to fail. I didn't change it when i did the oil change earlier on, as i had changed the fuel filter before hand. So ordered one off which i got that day. Could i hell get the old one off, i even had the wheel off to get access! Turned out i was tightening the bloody thing
![]() a little expensive fix, but then again fuel filter is a bosh unit, and not a britpart unit. The door repair has worked, as my mate had no trouble shutting the door. ![]() In the words of my Good Friend, Gary Forrest 1980 -2025 " we will work something out" |
