The only advantage I see that it keeps the fuel cap cleanish. Roel

I was thinking the same. It's a challenge enough as it is.
As it happens, I had one of the Design and Development ones in my hand yesterday. It's a beautifully engineered thing but I can't help thinking that it's a solution looking for a problem. It surprises me, what with 3D printers and the like that no one has had a go at duplicating the 'Defendoor'. Or why the orginal manufacture stopped producing them. At circa a tenner each they were afordable and I am certain that if somone has the skill and the equipment to start a production run then they would sell like hot cakes! In 50 years of driving Land Rovers, in many countries, I have never felt the need to protect/hide the filler cap.
Neither have I ever had any problems as a result of driving with an exposed filler cap. Still, what is that phrase? You can fool some of the people all of the time. It is not a Defender, it is a One_Ten |

A good few years ago well at least nine years, I was in contact with the maker of Defendoors, I can't recall his name now or the country he lived in. The reason I mention this is because he was designing a few other goodies, one was a rear speaker pod andf I was kindly sent a prototype of the pods for free, I still have these fitted and they are much better than LR ones. Shortly after that he seemdd to dissapear off the face of the earth. Odd as he was making money out of his designs. As a matter of interest would there ever have been a LR - Defender or Series - with a 'proper' spring-loaded door for the filler, just like what you find on other cars?
I ask because I picked something up on ebay a few months ago, just on a whim - and for a fraction of the price of what kicked off this thread. It's made to fit the opening pretty well, with a 'nook' to get a finger in to open it - again just like standard modern cars. I haven't bothered to fit it before, but now the car's being painted I'm getting that done too, and will decide whether I think it's worth the effort. I'm just curious about where it might have come from? Sorry I can't post a pic - I don't have the car at the moment. It's worth noting the originally posted fuel door (possibly the second too?) requires drilling the body to fit. Personally I don't like the look or see the need but one reason it was developed was to give a place for a sticker stating the fuel type in several languages. Useful when overlanding at serviced fuel stations? James
