Proof of 2.2 being fitted in 2012
Taken this straight from topix, it is the only engine avaliable... We are also losing the ability to buy it in 3 forms; CREW CAB 4 DR, CREW CAB HCPU 4 DR and PICK UP 2DR. I suggest if you want one of those 3 get it now Smile

It is a service from land rover for dealer, I would recommend that you check it out. It's free if you want basic Information like the ability to find your vehicle with it's vin, see recalls etc.... You can also see fitting instructions for assesories.

Hope that helped

Ford costs reduction.

the 2.2 and 2.4 ARE THE SAME motors (only the stroke is different).....

On transit too they will use only the 2.2L so LESS PARTS TO MANAGE

2.4 will use on Ranger (bring to 2.5L) Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition

Move to 2.2l was inevitable, because these are the only engines being brought to Euro5 emission standards. It was speculated that the Defender will go there too after Ford announced in Brimingham in April that the Ford Transit will go 2.2l engines only and 2.4l will be discontinued completely.

But i am surprised topix shows the 2011 engine as being 140hp, as it is actually reduced to 122hp in the defender.

So someone who wants to buy a new Defender now needs to either get in quick to try and secure a 2.4 or hang back a few weeks to get the 2.2 depending on views on the relative merits and demerits of the engines.

I assume Defenders will keep their N1 status (commercial vehicle) in the uk regardless (although I am only really concerned about the Utility Wagon TBH).

Cheers

2.4L also is EU5 with DPF (see here in italy on transit 140CV), but for the EU emission rate we see the engine - vehicle system, not the only engine stand alone.

The Defender is more heavy respect the Transit ......

The problem is: Ford for engine assembly line optimization reasons will provide only the 2.2L and the volume of the Defender production (and London taxis) is too small for maintain the 2.4 prod. line alive.....

But 2.4 output capabilities are stronger than 2.2 (transit AWD -2011MY is provided only with the 2.4). Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition

Anyway, the engine is the same and the differences will be so little that the Defender will not change character....

this is the new 2.2L

122 bhp is not a lot compared to the other models in the LR range. Is it enough to cope with heavy loads and long hills etc? What is the torque difference?
