Wiper and washers stopped working!
Hi new to this website!
I see a lot of threads about wipers not working. Looks like a weak point ( of many!) On the defender.
Last week I turned the wipers on and found the blades were completely frozen to the windscreen. Defrosted the window released the blades but no action from the wipers nor the washers.
I have checked the fuses and they are all okay. I have replaced the wiper stalk still no joy.
Just wondering what next to check? If both the wipers and washers are down is there any point in replacing the relay?
If the washers are not working is there any point in checking the wiper motor switch?
Any advice would be appreciated
My defender is TDCI 2013

I’ve had plenty of wiper woes but never the issue of both wipe and wash not working simultaneously .
I should think it’s related to the actual wiper stalk on the steering column, there’s nothing else that springs to mind . Although I’ll no doubt be corrected in a bit !
The contacts are notoriously sensitive on both stalks and any overload could have melted one or two points.

If wipers were operated whilst frozen, so not able to move, I would expect the fuse to blow, I know you have checked this, but I would double check it. The next stage is to determine if you are getting 12v to motor. If yes motor has failed, if no it’s fuse, relay, or switch.

Turn it on, then give the wipers a nudge and keep clear.
You might find this will do the trick.
Try carefully manually operating them and just becaregul if they do spring into life. Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️

Cheers chaps,
It made sense to me that it would be a fuse or stalk issue. But I have double checked the fuses and all are fine. I have also replaced the stalk and still no joy.
Not sure where to go with this as if both washer and motor are not working there must be some common fault somewhere...?

Can you hear the wiper motor turning?

No noise and manually moving the wipers whilst on doesn’t work either 😤

Well I suppose the leaves you with the relay . The washer wiper synchronisation must go through a relay in order for it to work as one

Which fuses have you looked at? Have you done a visual inspection only or tried swapping known good replacements to check?

Supply to wiper feed relay is Fuse 12 (15 Amps)

Also check Fuse 9 (engine ECU ignition sense).

Right, relay changed and still no joy!

I’ve visually checked all fuses and swapped the relevant fuse.

My fuses are numbered differently to the ones you mention.
