Td5 Centre Exhaust Box and Griffin exhaust
I am sure many of you will have removed your centre box does it create a drone at cruising speeds 60-65mph?
Does the griffin system create extra drone at cruising speeds?
Thanks 2016 Defender Landmark 90

I've got a cheap straight thru centre pipe on mine, and I think it drones a bit at motorway speeds, but to be honest not enough that it bothers me. I also can't remember what it sounded like before!

I removed the centre box on my 110 and found no noise difference at all. This was different on my 90 where it was noticeable. And VERY noticeable with the cat removed.

Now here’s a thing.

I fitted an aftermarket decat pipe to my 2005 110 and the droning at motorway speeds was such that l ended up refitting the CAT. A year or so later l tried again, this time with a genuine Land Rover part (at £180, three times the price)

Result? No droning at all at motorway speeds. How can this be from just a piece of pipe with no silencer? I can only assume the LR one must be made from thicker metal or maybe acoustically tuned in some way.

TBH l can’t feel much difference with the decat pipe fitted, l was told that the turbo would “spool up faster” but it feels the same to me.

thanks for your responses.
I was planning to leave the CAT installed.
Lightning are you saying you can buy a genuine land rover straight pipe to replace the centre silencer? 2016 Defender Landmark 90

You can buy a genuine straight through front pipe as it was standard on pre-2002 Defenders.

Centre pipe delete was never standard so no, you’ll have to buy aftermarket.

Worth noting that mine is pre-cat, so the only silencer in the system is the one by the rear wheel.
