Rear arch spare fuel tank.
Has anyone fitted the 45L rear arch tank from Britpart. Are they made well?It seems straight forward to fit or am I wrong.I'm hoping that the main tank does not have to come out to fit the filler tube. Puma 110 SW

Can't comment on the tank itself, but you'd have to pay me to use Britpart stuff. And even then it'd have to be a lot.

That is listed as being suitable for

Be very careful here. It also depends on the tyres you run as well!

We have a 96 110 300TDi on 255/85/R16 M/T. Have run this with a wing tank and these tyres for many years. The tyres OR mud etc on tyres just touch the tank on full articulation. Evidence is a small scuff mark on the arch tank.

On our 09 110 Puma on same tyre we fitted the same tank. A visual inspection showed that the bottom leading edge of the arch tank would foul the tread on the tyres. NOT good news if at speed the tyre tread was caught by the tank. Something would go bang when the tyre got caught.

Safari Equip had to alter design of arch tank for Pumas. So if getting the Britpart one ensure they state that it is compatible with your tyre size.

Fitting the wing tank should be relatively straight forward. Best done on a 4 post ramp with wheel off

The Safari Equip ones can be made from aluminium mild steel or stainless steel.

There is no after market fuel tank guard for a wing tank. Safari Equip will double bottom them for you on request giving a 4 mm(?) bottom. Extra cost with double bottom is about £40 I believe.

If you need any help with the Safari Equip gear give me a shout as I am only 2 miles away from them

Difference in tyre diameter between a 255/85/16 and a 235/85/16 is 34mm or 17mm on radius.

I would say that the smaller tyre would have cleared the old style SE wing tank but I would still check with Britpart to make sure as you are so far away.

It is better to ask questions first and try to avoid potential problems

i have a 45L (ish) tank from Brendan, i must admit to not fitting it yet, but its for a Puma with the afroementioned 255.85s and i asked for it to be made to make sure it wouldn't foul the tyres. Its certainly well made and good value for money too. As my trip this year is on hold (of a sorts) the rush to fit it has passed. Cheers

Might not be of help. I have the Big Countryone here is South Africa. The guy pointed out the differences between Big Country and Frontrunner. Frontrunner is 45l and thus it's too far out (Too much volume). Rubbing happens on the wheels. His tank is 40 l but also the side exposed is arched, not straight. My 2CW.
