Hi Darren,

Are you able to let me know where you got the axle retaining brackets from, I am struggling to find them online? (mainly as I don't really know what I am looking for!!)

Great job by the way Thumbs Up

Cheers.

Part numbers for the brackets are:

- LR068818 LH bracket
- LR068822 RH bracket

Google these part numbers and several suppliers will miraculously appear, also available via ebay sellers.

I plugged the part numbers into eBay, which was the easiest purchasing route (notwithstanding that I've been sent the wrong one!). They cost around £30 each. I also bought new nuts, which are M16 x 1.5 nylocs. Darren

The original recall didn't include 90's but the brackets will fit just the same. Darren

Indeed, the original recall not include 90s but they still fail all the same. See https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic55655.html

Is there still an alignment issue whereby the original flanged nuts will not seat correctly?

Almost certainly, yes. A standard nut just about fits into the recess in the bracket but I can't see how a flanged nut would. The clearance is such that I also couldn't get a socket on one of the nuts and had to use an open spanner. Darren

Hmmm - I have just received my brackets today and the LR flanged nuts fit the recess.

Maybe the design has changed slightly?

Hmm, ok. I think the problem may lie with the alignment of the two holes in the bracket with those on the axle. When I fitted mine, I put the first nut on without issue but with second, the bracket was positioned such that a socket wouldn't fit over the nut without fouling. I managed to get it to fit with a spanner but it wasn't quite central with the machined flat on the bracket, which leads me to believe that a flange nut wouldn't fit. It's basically a pretty tight tolerance. Darren

I don't remember any issues with mine when I fitted them either. Maybe the issue is tightening either nut full before the other has seated?

I'll take another look when I get the replacement for the drivers side. Darren

I have not had time to fit these today but I ran the vernier callipers over the components - there is a good 1 mm clearance on diameter between the O/D of the LR flange nut and the recess in the reinforcement piece. Rgds.
