2008 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 CSW Stornoway Grey

Clutch fluid.

Changed my DOT4 clutch fluid today and it resembled black ink. 10 minute job.

I change mine when I do the brake fluid, so every 2 years

I only changed the reservoir. Is there a bleed nipple on a Puma?

Better change mine soon, it’s been fermenting for over 15 years since I last changed the slave cylinder..

2007 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 HT Keswick Green

Re the query about the Puma clutch fluid, there is a bleed nipple on the slave cylinder extension.
It doesn't look like a conventional blender though. It's a plastic fitting that only opens about 1/4 - 1/2 turn. On mine the 'nipple' portion was covered by an unusually large rubber cover which caused me to discount it as being the correct part at first. The barb of the nipple was also a bit larger in diameter than that of a brake blender. Same bleeding convention applies though.

Like others, on checking the fluid in the clutch master cylinder I was horrified! Looked like muddy black soup. I purchased a new master cylinder fearing the worst, but on bleeding the clutch with the help of Mrs S on the pedal, clear fluid came through ok. No real issues experienced. And new cylinder remains on a shelf in the shed for another time. On examining the fitting if I recall correctly, you can see how much you can turn it to open it and close it. Just remember its only made of plastic so don't give it an ill natured rive! It must seal using an internal 'o' ring or similar and not the usual conical steel sealing face of a conventional nipple.

If you have a good grip you don't need a spanner to release the bleed nipple. I just put my hand up and I can open and shut it that way. Safer in my opinion
