Please, no "curb stomping" Oslo - however antagonised you may be.

It is just sinking to their level.

Since this is a grumpy old git thread on a predominantly UK English forum can we please avoid American expressions!

Curb should be kerb and stomping should be stamping. Now kerb stamping is likely to result in a broken foot for the person doing the stamping on a kerb..

Now yes had to research what the expression 'curb stomping' actually meant when translated into English.

So Osloblue I would not recommend you partaking in curb stomping or kerb stamping as it could backfire.

Forgive me, just get so wound up about things like that...

Wasn't much as a kid, skinny, short thing, so was an easy target. Now I've filled out to above average weight and height, i'm not so much of an easy target...

In all honesty i'm still a little hurt by it all (especially all this business with death), bit robotic and grim in fact, and i think thats a result of an indecent life experience whilst still young. Being Grim and robotic is probably the thing i hate most about myself... I'm on IG: https://www.instagram.com/osloblue42/

Got a call from my mobile phone provider. The Guy wanted to provide me with a great deal. The long and the short of it, he is trying to get me to sign up to half as much data for an extra £1 a month and lock me in for 12 months. I point out that this is not a good deal. I am then asked whether I have another device which can take a SIM card. Well, I haven't. iPad is an non-SIM version. This Guy then starts trying to 'give me' a free sim to split my already half amount of data on a device which I do not own. Keeping up? Well after I tell him he hasn't listened to me and that I am not interested in this 'great deal' of his he starts getting more aggressive trying to push me home internet fibre to my property. I live in the middle of knowhere. A small village in Norfolk. Hell, Norfolk has only been linked to London by dual carriageway in the last four years, high speed fibre is only for those in built up areas and larger villages (where the companies can make money on quantity). I explain this to the Guy. He then tells me that his company installs the infrastructure needed - just like Virgin Media does and they don't rely on BT's fibre network. They have fibre infrastructure in my road. He has checked. Now, unless these fibre installation teams work in the middle of the night with muffled shovels, and they are great at repairing roads and verges, I haven't seen these fibres being installed. By now I am getting a little upset by his monotonous drivel and lies and I tell him I have had enough and hang up.

So incensed by this aggressive little individual, I complain to the mobile phone company. I spend 30 minutes on their website trying to find contact details for a complaints department. There is one, but hell it's difficult to locate. I send the email stating facts, times and as they tell me they record the calls, there is no real need because it has all been recorded, right? I also try instant messaging on their website. I try at work, and twice at home, but all their advisers are busy, all of the time.

The confirmation email promised doesn't materalise with 48 hours. In fact, it never has in over a week. They did contact me in the end. The Guy who phoned me put me on hold for five minutes so he could read my email (must have been a slow reader, it wasn't that long). He then re-reads the email back to me. I know what it said. I wrote it. I had asked that I am removed from their telephone marketing list. The Guy tells me he will do that and if there is anything else he can help me with?

Over 20 years I have been with this company. I have never complained to them ever. Now its sorry our employee tried to rip you off, was arrogant, aggressive and didn't listen and then became rude. We're going to remove you from our telephone marketing and thank you for your loyalty. I asked for something for my inconvenience. I was told there was nothing. The stand off on the telephone call went on for five minutes. They offered me two megs of data extra in the end. I took it. It wont cost them anything. I never use my data allowance. But the taste of something is better than the taste of nothing.

I am utterly demoralised by this company. I would jump ship but they have a really good coverage where I live, probably better than the other two big companies so I would be cutting my nose off, despite my face by telling them to stick it.

I hate big companies.

I get calls like that on a daily basis...

Either steel supply companies or recruiters

Recruiters are pretty much daily, I have hundreds of recruitment agencies / consultants on my phone so I know to ignore them.

“I have the job of a life time for you” and they proceed to explain that the job is a 4 hour commute away, less money, more hours and frankly less interesting then my current job. I’ve been offered jobs in slough, Scotland, Belfast, even overseas like Dubai, Abu Dhabi and had an email offering Antarctica at a research station once.

The steel salesmen are the funniest though.
One chap phoned and offered me £825.00/tonne and £450.00/tonne delivery and that it’s never been cheaper, I turned round and told him £1275/tonne is too expensive. He said it was a good deal and I would be hard found to find a place cheaper.

I told him my suppliers hover at £575.00/tonne, including free delivery.
His reply was that their service is excellent, and that they can cut and bent with a two day lead time, and if I liked I could swing by and pick it up from their depot in Bristol.

I told them my three suppliers will pick up the phone even at midnight, have an overnight bend & cut, and will also thread. And that I could literally swing by rainhams (who offer me a the lowest price) on my way in, and have my own guys cut at their yard.

He still tried to sell me... right up until his company went bust... I'm on IG: https://www.instagram.com/osloblue42/

I am a capitalist.

But I have come to realise that there are two types of capitalist.

The small guy, working his butt off, enterprising, risk taking, customer focused and being taxed to the hilt.

Then there is "big" capitalism, saturation mindless advertising, pushy, greedy and don't really give a monkeys for anything except maximising short-term profit at all cost - so the Board can award themselves huge bonuses. (£75 million bonus for Chairman of Persimmon Homes, on the back of taxpayers' "Help to Buy" money. Shocked )

It seems socialism has run out of steam and capitalism has run out of morals.

Time for a 3rd "ism" methinks.

Today I got a letter from a courier company that we use from their sales and marketing team.

Not a good start when they misspelt my christian/given name as Brenden. OK that is just about understandable and forgivable.

However to completely get my family name wrong as I am now an Unknownbrew apparently is an insult.

Yes they have been informed of their crass ignorant form of addressing me in no uncertain terms.

If they can not get my name correct what chance have they got of delivering parcels to the correct address?

Were I sit at work when i'm at my desk which is approx. 90 minutes per day, the chap to my left tells me the same story once a week for a month and then moves on to the next one. His issues revolve around his wife being thick as 2 short planks or the fact his mortgage has yet to be approved.

it's got so bad as soon as he comes into the office to sit at his desk, I get up and find myself a job elsewhere to do. Think he's latched on to what I'm doing now so just starts telling me the stories as soon as I get out my chair, me not wanting to be ignorant slowly walks to the door of our shared office as he talks and opens the door whilst politely nodding, I then pray for his phone to ring so I can do a boogie somewhere else whilst he's distracted.

Similar situation. I’ve put his number in my quick dial list so whenever he comes to talk I dial him with 141 so he has to go. Back to his desk...
