Grumpy young man here! I don't know if anyone has caught up with this story about Paris Brown, the UK's first 'Police Youth Crime Commissioner' (whatever that is) - what a load of nonsense! They've given the poor girl the position and then dug up some "dirt" on her, exposed it to the entire nation and basically forced her to immediately step down and in the process be publicly humiliated infront of the nation. Who's brilliant idea was it to have a 17 year old in such a position anyway? I understand the principle I suppose, to get the 'youth' more involved in policing strategies, but at the age of 17 (which wasn't that long ago for me) you don't really know your a*se from you elbow and have many other things going on that take up your attention (we've all been there). Trying to fit in with other people, making the transition to adult-hood etc. etc.
I really couldn't give a stuff what somebody has written of Facebook or Twitter in a drunken moment or whilst they weren't thinking particularly clearly. And now they're talking about launching an investigation into her comments? What a joke. At that age, when you don't really know how to deal with these things properly, it could have a really damaging effect on her life from this point forward and for what? Absolutely sod all. Some numpty's good idea for getting the kids involved in policing. All they've succeeded in doing is making a young girl extremely unhappy and upset, and now scared that she might be facing criminal prosecution. Well done boys! Top job! The story is here for anyone interested. 2005 Td5 | 90 Station Wagon | Tonga Green |

Paying 15 grand per anum to a 17 y/o kid who clearly is not mature enough to deal with the situation is laughable. Still, perhaps it will teach gobby youngsters that stuff you posted on this or that social network when you were 14 like she did may just come back and bite them at some point in the future.
Still we could be endlessly talking about the death of Thatcher and the impact she had on the nation just like the obsessed BBC has done over the past couple of days. Steve. Out of interest, would you have been as sympathetic had it been a 17 year old boy? Real trucks don't have spark plugs |

I don't think it makes any difference whether its a boy or a girl. If that person makes those mistakes, they make them regardless of their gender. An engine to TDi for! "Land Rover- Proudly turning drivers into mechanics since 1948" ![]() |

She sounded like a stupd chav on the radio. Coming out with comments like "young people thesedays don't want to bother anyone with their problems, so any thoughts we have, we stick on
![]() what a load of cobblers.... it's just gobby keyboard warrior mentality... "I'll stick it on ![]() And what job would she have done anyway? trying to get coucils to pay for stuff for "the youfs" to do "coz we're bored innit" When I was young, I didn't have to stab people/join a gang/graffiti everything to fill my time; I engaged my brain and got a hobby or 3. |

But that's not what I asked - I asked whether Green Machine would have been as sympathetic had the young chav in question been male: Real trucks don't have spark plugs |

@Udderly - Yes, I would. The issue I have with it is that I don't think it's appropriate to expose someone of that age to that amount of responsibility and potential public backlash. Clearly the interview process that was used was flawed and they chose the wrong person for the job. But, that aside, I just disagree with the whole idea of engaging a 17 year old in something that potentially has a high level of political and media attention. Unless she'd had enormous amounts of training beforehand in how to deal with that kind of thing. To me it seems like a 'lambs to the slaughter' situation.
I suppose it's a problem of the age of digital communication, whereby an automatic record of what you have 'said' is being made. If you say something to someone on the 'phone, then, unless it is being recorded, it is just between those two people and can't be accessed again. As soon as you send it as an email or via a social network, it can be dragged up in public. I'm not sure about that. We all say stupid things from time to time, it's part of being human. It was like the Gordon Brown 'bigoted woman' fiasco. So what? He said it in private in a moment of frustration, not knowing he was being recorded. We end up in a situation where everyone has to self-censor anything that they say or write so that it can't be used against them 5 or 10 years down the line. 2005 Td5 | 90 Station Wagon | Tonga Green |

Why are people who tow caravans held in such low regard, unlike those who tow trailers or horse boxes??
My biggest problem when towing is overtaking the b ![]() ![]() Neighbourhood Watch for Land Rover Owners http://www.landywatch.co.uk/smf2/index.php |

I tend to ignore the caravan speed limits if it's a busy road with little chance of overtaking but I'm usually held up by somebody tootling along holding me up.

You can thank Top Gear and Clarkson partly for that for inducing caravanning hatred. ![]() ___\⭐️Lone|Star|State/___ ____\We|Will|Win/___ ____/🇬🇧🇺🇸\____ _//*⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰*\\_ |

Too true Laurie, underpowered towcar, over large caravan, both loaded to the limit + inexperience.
