Cheers grafty Thumbs Up
So once you have design done is it just like ordinary printer in terms of clicking print on laptop and provided every thing is plugged in thats it.
What is the plastic like when finished is it tough or flexy or brittle, forgive my ignorance just all new to me this 3d printing but something im keen to have a go at Thumbs Up
Is your printer a top end one or a beginners one,as im looking for advice on what type to buy
Any advice appreciated and a big help thanks

So when you have completed your design, you save it as a .STL file. This is imported into a slicing software which converts the design into something the printer can use (called gCode). This is then transferred to the printer via USB cable or an SDcard.

Then it is essentially press print and leave it to go.

In the setup of the gCode to some extent determines the strength of the finished item. A fast low quality print won't be as strong as a slower high quality one. Also the density of infill has a bearing. A correctly setup printer and a good design will produce objects that near injection moulded strength Thumbs Up

My printer is on the upper end of budget printers I would say. £300 roughly and I had it printing within an hour of opening the box. (No prior experience) I say budget because 3D printers can run into thousands of pounds Shocked

The less you spend, the more construction work is needed. Mine is an all metal construction which gives good stability for accurate prints. Many of the sub £200 printers are plastic, which will flex more.

The beauty of the lower cost printers is that once up and running you can print upgrade parts to improve them Thumbs Up 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Today has not been a good day Sad Started this morning at 9 for a full service, literally anything that moves has been given attention (as I do every service @5000 miles).

Changed the coolant (as I do every 2 years) and guess what happens?

As I went to replace the top hose bleed screw I pushed the thread into the hose Evil or Very Mad so whip the top hose and thermostat off, do you think I can find it?!? So I now have a fully serviced immobile defender with some kind of threaded brass or plastic floating around in there to try and sort on a Sunday morning Big Cry 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Well today I very quickly realised that I wasn't going to get anywhere with the defender. I found the offending thread and other bits if broken plastic in the thermostat housing luckily and as all the local places that might have had a new top hose were closed, I decided to go back in the warm.

A while later I ended up with a new design for my air intake vent. It's on the printer now but this is the picture of the CAD drawing Thumbs Up

Your truck really has come on a long way when you compare it to the picture in your first post on this thread. Pretty much unrecognisable! Matt.
