It went very smoothly. Everything popped together nicely and nothing unexpected. I haven't really got a final cost as I did a full service at the same time (all oils etc) but including VAT about £2000 I'd imagine. 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Just shy of what I spent on my Rover then, I recon it would have cost a massive fortune if you had a garage do it Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

I would imagine so! So much so that it would probably have been cheaper to replace the engine if a garage were doing it.

I had the sump off to steam clean it inside and out (and check the oil pump sprocket bolt) and also painted a few bits in the engine bay to tidy things up a bit.

Non of which you can see when the engine cover is fitted Laughing 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Best way, I did the same thing, I went as far in replacing the thermostat housing and pipe. Just to make sure all the coolant was clear. I tell you what the through grafty, Mine started having other problems, It started to blow random fuses then it started to pop the fan fuses for the rad. I had two fans that worked off different systems MPI and SPi, and both kept blowing! We couldnt work out why, it was like the car had a mind of its own! I had to get shot in the end, i was nearly close of spending another 1k on diagnostic. That would have pushed the car into the 2k marker, I had already spent 10k on building the car, and i wasnt going to go any further with it. As it was starting to out way the enjoyment of owning it.
Laugh is i could have rebuilt my land rover defender, for the cost of building a street sleeper metro.

Definitely a sleeper! My mate had a Rover 200? With the 1.8vvc engine. It went really well, so I bet a car that is lighter again would be rapid! 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon
