Ford Orion time warp classic?
Interesting, new in 1985, used for less than a year and parked up ever since with just over 3000 miles on the clock!

I wonder if reliability would be an issue or could you live with the guilt of adding more miles Confused

Could you live with the guilt that before you get it they intend to smother it in waxoil not a decent rust preventative treatment. Shocked

Cars like that now, should be trailered to car shows! To good to drive on the road!
While I was at knockhill over the weekend, I saw a sweet mk5 tina estate.

My Mum had a 1995 Fiesta, it did so many miles that when she sold it, it "only" had 300 miles on clock.

He had two, the first in green with white wheel trims (not alloys), then a red one. Both great cars and I was lucky enough to be able to borrow them for holidays, Happy days. 2010 XS USW

Says Ghia on the boot but GL in the description?
I had one of the later 1.6i Ghia’s, thought I was the bees knees. The lad who I bought it from had fitted the dog leg RS turbo alloys which I wasn’t overly keen on, but it handled very well indeed due to lowered springs and Koni’s too. It was probably the last nice normal car I had as it was onto Landys after that.

Laugh owning cars as rare as that now, is a real head turner. My 1st car was a rover metro rio, I used to get some stick due to it been a metro, people sitting up the arse end of it etc. Fast forward to 2011, when I put my metro gta 16v on the road. People started to change their tune on them, that was due to the fact that they had practically vanished from the roads.
I did get fare few looks like this Shocked When It used to walk away from people trying to sit off the arse end.
I remember one lad delivering my takeaway, saying "that brings me back! is it still fast!"
The running gear ended up going in a 1.1s shell, and yes I did leave the 1.1s badge Very Happy The car was a 1.8 160bhp Whistle
Now Metros have practically blew up in value now,

Ahh - well I also had a metro Gta red, on an H plate (about 2 years old when I had it) so just like yours. That was a real blast in fact one reason for getting rid for my first Discovery was I thought I might lose my driving licence if I kept it any longer! A nice fast car, under rated but felt like it was on rails all of the time. 2010 XS USW

diesel_jim, No not really, a hell of a lot of rubbish info on the 1.8 vvc conversion that's about it. " you need to cut this, weld that, you need these parts etc" A few people did ask me about it, as they were wanting to do one, and I steered them away from the idea. Due to the faff on with information wise, If I had known what I know now, I wouldn't have even gone anywhere near it!

What I did was use the Gearbox that was used for the 1.8 engine, just to keep things simple. So basically the front end was an MGF, ( mgf uses metro subframes with extra brackets) The gear linkage was a rover 218 cut down, and the engine loom was converted over, Laugh was I found out later that it is only 6 pins to switch over. One of the MG metro cup lads told me that, he said if I knew you were building yours up andy, id have saved you £100 by telling you the pins!
The Rad was a diesel Metro one, like rocky horse Censored they are! but the core is large.
What I did was upgrade the MGF stuff to lotus elise, as they shared a few things. The shell was metro gti parts ( ball joints and track rod ends)
If you were going non vvc, then it would be a case of dropping the lump in and swopping over the ECU set etc, and using the MPI metro loom.
The gearbox you can use metro one, but you would have had to change flywheels and change the starter for a stronger unit ( but i cannot really see why on that one) More of a mix match doing it that way.
Suspension was GTi with the anti roll bars and dampers.
If anything about the conversion its the part sourcing to do the project which was a right pain in the arse! Finding Mpi metro bits and Rover 218 bits were extinct up here in scrap yards at the time.
Exhaust was a metro gti unit, A little bit restrictive, but then again it kept things plug and play. Used to be a giggle when it was warming up still, it used to rumble going down the gears Laughing

for the sleeper part of it jim, i can tell you we had some right old laughs! I used to drive it like a diesel, Short shifting it up the box at 3 to 4k RPM. So it behaved just like a standard Metro would.
One time i was at the lights on a 3 way lane, left lane going left and straight on etc. I was sat in the middle lane and a ford focus, came on the right hand lane, he was going straight forward too, But the lanes in front merged into two lanes.
So i said to my dad, sit tight and watch! I let the fella go when the lights changed, i pulled the car away as normal, but let the thing rev right up to 6k in second gear and then changed into 3rd gear. He had not even cleared the junction when i caught him and was right beside him, and starting to hang him out. My dad was ill with laughter! The fella wouldnt look over and had a very embarrassed look on his face Very Happy
Also a micra owner tried to have sit off the arse end too, well his face was like Shocked as it just walked away from him.
some alfa sports car got hung out too, as he thought he could sit off the arse end and try to under take. He got a very nasty shock too Very Happy
The 306 lads followed the build from the very start and to the day i called it. It did go to a 306 meet too, a mate of mine who had a tuned 306 said he would have took the Censored out of me on the road, but would have got scared if i attacked back Laughing
So yeah it was a cruel car Very Happy
Just got silly expensive and a lot of things started to fail, due to the age. Plus Rover stuff of that age was getting near impossible to get hold of in scrap yards, even new parts were getting thin too. Still one of the best cars i have owned was the rover metro. Not to mention the metro saved the day a few times too! it was the only working car we had at one point Laughing Would i buy another one again? No i have had 3 already Laughing
I would build another sleeper again, but it would be a mk2 escort or a mk5 cortina, as i do miss the laughs! Very Happy Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back
