I am pretty sure td5 ecu outputs a 4cylinder square wave pulse. All you need is a circuit to boost the 0-5v signal to 12v. 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread

It's not really a 0-5V signal, the ECU output has a particular characteristic that you need to match.

But a 4-cylinder rev counter works perfect.

Hi Peter, I'd like to know how you've succeeded. A schedule, a manual and material list is more than welcome.

Can you put a rev counter on a 300tdi? 300tdi 90 1996.

I think the 300tdi alternator has a W terminal - I'd so then there is a whole raft of aftermarket rev counters that would just for straight on.

Still no schedule, the vdo rev counter Peter used is a 4000 rpm one. Td5 engines max is 4850, if I remember correctly.

Hi Peter,

Still need to finish my installation, but it works great.
With a bit of glue electronics it is really a simple install, and it costs a fraction of the original Td5 rev counter.
