Not a good idea on intercooled Defenders as the intercooler needs cold air flow.. expect black smoke and raised MPG.... 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

before you do that rosco, if you do a lot of offroad driving without high load (ie low speed, steep hills etc) in winter, a rad muff will help with overcoming the problem of a low engine temp and a low heater temp. as long as you keep the flap open a little it ll be fine. To put that into context, At the weekend i spent a lot of time idling in very cold conditions and the gauge went down so low that the heater just really wasn't doing much. A rad muff would have really helped that. Also helpful on very cold mornings, you keep the flap closed but then have to hop out and open it when the engine gets to temperature.

also v v useful if you do any wading. a few weeks ago in wales i went thorugh deep water which was full of grass and all kinds of crap. took me the best part of half a day to clear it all out of the radiator, and at the time I wished I had a rad muff to close.

In very cold weather (like now) I use an empty feed sack as a rad muff.Works fine on short journeys and helps with quick warm up .Keeps temp up when working at low revs off road.I have noticed no change in fuel consumption or any black smoke and no loss of power. Best of all its cheap. :D

BigMike/Toplink cheers for the additional advice.

Maybe I'll put it back on the Christmas list. The rad muff that is. Im fairly certain my better half wont give me an empty feed sack as a gift.
