These are pictures of the extension fitted to the handbrake lever on my narrowtrack. It is fitted to a breakaway cable and will pull the lever on and keep brakes on due to working on the ratchet of the brake. 1995 Defender 110 CSW

^ That's ACE.

I need electric help as I'm still using a light board but today started converting the Nato to 12V... but hit a problem...

I may have made a school boy error. I'm color blind to needed my wifes help to label up the wires. So printed them out and cut the Nato lead off...Thinking the cables are colored (I have the wiring code what they relate to on a normal socket) Only when I cut it....they are ALL the same color? How do I tell whats what....arrgghh. Managed to tidy up the old wiring and put the junction box in place.... Help please

As you've cut the end off, the only way to tell which is which now is to buzz them out to the lights on the back.

I did a similar conversion on my last Widetrack, although the cables were colour coded on mine:

The individual wires would have had numbered idents at each end. Now you have cut in the middle of the length you will have to use a multimeter and power source to workout function for each wire. 1995 Defender 110 CSW

OK I'm struggling...

I've tried peeling back the cable more around 60cm worth and no marks or numbers or colours... so I

Tried to have a go at the multimeter idea but as I've cut the lead I've extended one of the multimeter lead and I'm strugging with working out whats what Sad

Then I remembered I had this trailer checker gadget, so thought great Use that. I've tried putting each wire I've cut in in it but nothing when I do the singularly. When I touch two pins with some of the wires I get a light on the gadget but it could be left brake light or right signal depending which two pins I touch... I would have thought I need to find the earth wire first? and then once that is touching a pin then try the other wires to get the light?

I'm a bit lost Sad

Any help please? on what I should be doing,

You need a multimeter with a continuity buzzer. Touch one lead to one of the lights' positive contacts and then touch the other to each cut wire in turn until you find one that sounds the buzzer. Mark it and move on to the next one. Same principle with earth except you touch a bit of bare metal on the chassis.

Remember that the Sankey lights are wired slightly differently to the standard civilian set up - separate feeds to each side light, for example that need to be combined in the civvy plug. Plus, there are additional feeds for things like the convoy light that you won't need to use. Darren

You are going the right way. Find the the earth and then work through the others by trial and error. 1995 Defender 110 CSW

OK all,

I would have never done this.... Wired not colour coded or numbered (I'm colour blind also) and I'm not really very good with a multimeter unless very basic checking...

So the power of the forum Greadh came to help tonight and spent 3 hrs with me finding out what is what and re wiring the plug.

After I cannot imagine how long, All the original lights now work off the 12v.

I cannot thank Greadh enough as I would have simply not be able to do this. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

All I need to do it tidy up the junction box and re fit the lens caps.

Brilliant job Greadh Thumbs Up

No other car I have ever owned is like the Defender, I can tell you now with the Mercs and BMW's I have owned no one would have helped Very Happy

Thanks DEF2 forum and Greadh

OK back on this after many years Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Decided to finally fit the alloys I have had that match my car after they have been in the garage for years !!

So dug out and cleaned some spacers I had, had the wheels swapped over..Also added my old 110 mudflaps to rear as wider & bolted the Rhino bars to tub to make it more secure.

Waiting on delivery of some more alloy wheel bolts so I can fit the other wheel and some centre caps but it should look good now it matches the car Smile

Don't forget wheel arches as your tyres will stick out beyond the body. Darren

He has asked about that on FB Sankey site.
Someone has posted today with Land Rover wheelarch eyebrows fitted above the arches on the trailer. Any advice on dimensions and types of fixings to use would be useful 1995 Defender 110 CSW

Your right, already have some arches but not sure how to fit and look neat? They are not sanded / painted etc yet

How do I box in the corners (I cannot weld)

Or leave it right up and fit them
