Removing the door cards

I was wanting to remove the door card to install some sound deadening but ran into a small problem.

I can't seem to remove the lock surround. Do I need to just give it some muscle? I don't want to break it.

I found this PDF which seem useful.

Sweeps over the lock cover though.

Morning Jono,

Can I assume that you undid the screw holding the "door opener" (could not think of a better term) it to the door card?

The door lock should just lift off with limited effort and found something like this very handy http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CAR-VAN-DOOR-TRI...SwstxVLmYK

By lock surround, I presume you mean the escutcheon which surrounds the knob that goes up and down at the top of the door where your elbow rests ?

If so this is best removed by using the edge of a piece of 2" x 1" timber placed under the bottom edge and tapped upwards with a hammer

It will only come out upwards.

100% with Matt

The edging only clips in place, and needs tapping directly upwards to remove. A small piece of wood is ideal. Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant.

As above it is only the edging that comes off and not the button itself! Jeff

Thanks guys. Angry Puma's on Facebook helped out as well.

As you said, just got the removal tool I had and got it in from the bottom and then used a hammer to tap it off. A little too tight to do it by hand.

So i removed the two plugs at the bottom outer corner and top inner corner first.
Removed the close handle and the open handle.

Then used the Dodo Panel Popper tool to remove the card it self.

Easy when you know how. Didn't break any either.
