td5 rev counter
Is it a easy job to fit a rev counter to a td5 I'm sure I have seen one fitted but can't remember who or where I saw it

Easy, though not as easy as some engines where you only need to take a feed off the 'W' connector from the alternator and find a live and earth

On a TD5 you need a special loom, which is usually supplied with the rev counter, the loom has a little black box attached which requires an ignition feed and earth. Also you need to connect a ECU input to the black box on the loom which produces an output for the Rev Counter.
The wiring loom obtains its live from the live feed from the ignition barrel, earth from the steering column support or a good known earth; you can obtain an illumination for the gauge from another gauge in the instrument surround.
You run the wire from the ECU under the seat to behind the instruments, this feed goes to the little black box and the output wire from the black box goes to the Rev Counter. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

I fitted a genuine one, very easy, I used a Croytec loom which was very useful as it also came with all the instructions etc.
I'd recommend getting one, probably an hour or so to fit.
