England 2008 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Java Black
Rear step/tow bar
Following on from Dgardels 'collision' report (glad no injury) (shame about the Fiat) I want to get one of the rear step/tow bars as mentioned but found quite a difference in prices. I don't like spending more than necessary but even more....I prefer to buy quality. I've seen the NAS rear tow step (Extreme 4x4) for £374 and NAS style tow bar/step (Simmonites) for £274. Does the word 'style' indicate cheaper cause its not the real deal.

Your greater knowledge and experience greatly appreciated.

Think so - and if you ask very few are actually "approved" which means you cant tow on them (well you can but if VOSA stop you or you have an accident - game over) Mike

At present type approved rules don't apply to vehicles registered as commercial so theoretically any towbar can be fitted to say a 110 UTILITY version of June 09 onwards without upsetting vosa. Must be type approved for standard station wagons though.

Apparently true - anything van like (i personally dont get it) anything car like it has to be, you could have a good argument on a double cab or similar!

There were going to change this in 04 - i assume they didnt, really cant see why a its the way round it is, sure it should be the other way, commercials do and others dont Mike
