Thermostat position on a defender 200tdi
Hi guys

Went to replace my thermostat today aswell as do a few other jobs aswell but when I removed the top off the thermostat housing the thermostat was missing and want to know is there a specific position the thermostat should be in as my Haynes manual gives more info on the 300tdi than the 200tdi so not sure, can anyone shed any light on this please Smile Graham

The correct way up is large spring at the bottom Thumbs Up

I don't think it will fit the other way up, make sure you clean the mating faces off well and use a new gasket with some gasket blue to seal.

While your have your system drained, it is well worth giving your block, radiator and heater a good blast through with lots of clean water.

I usually poke a pressure washer down one hose and give it full whack to not only pressure test it but also to flow any crud out. remember to take the outlet hose off though or you will just move the crud from one part to the other!
