United Kingdom 2005 Defender 110 Td5 XS CSW Java Black
Florence - 110XS TD5
Florence the Machine

I've had this lovely 110 XS for two weeks now - she's my first Land Rover of any description, and I'm loving it!

I picked it up from SailorTom, another recent forum member, and I hope to keep looking after her in the manner that Tom so clearly has. She's a great blank canvas - exactly what I was after...

I've lots of things planned, but I think I'll keep her mostly as is over the winter (apart from a few little jobs over Christmas while I'm up North with the family - RRC handbrake, some security layers...)
I can see how the modification bug takes hold, and driving a Defender reminds me of my first car (proper Issigonis Mini Cooper) - they definitely share the 'family' DNA!

I'm calling her 'Florence the Machine' for several reasons, mostly relating to the plate that's on its way, but my boss is already calling it 'TMA-1' in reference to the black Monolith in '2001 - A Space Odyssey'

This is a great forum, very useful in deciding to finally buy a Defender, so thank you all! 110 XS TD5

Welcome Smile lovely defender you have there!

You could've swapped the bonnet for a tdci one and told us it was a 63 plate! Don't think I've ever seen such a tidy td5, you have good buying ability hopefully!

Enjoy owning and driving it as much as we do ours Cheers, David

Hi Zero
Good to see you getting used to it and very pleased to see it still so shiny. They all get nicknames as all my friends used to call it the hearse! I've just picked up my new little 90 so will have to put some pic's on here once the soft top conversion is done. Must admit I am missing the lovely sound of a TD5.
Look forward to see it being transformed to your ideal vehicle.
Cheers Tom Very Happy

Thanks for the nice comments - I can't take any credit for the current appearance, that's all down to SailingTom's hard work!

JSG, I'm curious - how do you know it's a 2005? Something obvious from that model year, or prior knowledge of the vehicle?

kipperthedog - well spotted bins, eagle-eyes! I'm south of Oxford, but I might be around on the 8th...

First 'long' trip coming up next week, driving home for Christmas (thank you Chris Rea!) up the M1 - any tips for pre-journey prep, or for long trip motorway comfort? 110 XS TD5

Cheers Zero. I think the Autoglym keeping the paint so good is what helps.
You wouldn't be able to guess the year from those pics, so guessing it was seen from when you hover over the little pic of your defender under your user name Wink
As for comfort and preparation, make sure you've got your ipod with you! and maybe some washer fluid as this time of year on motorways you get through loads.
just make sure when your there you give the chassis a hose down due to the salt, and before you wash it to get the worst off first. Smile
P.s don't think I can take full credit as looks like its had a going over since you drove it home Smile
Cheers
Tom

The head of the bolts in the front door hinges changed in 2005 and by zooming in I could see that you had those - however it lacks the later wiper arm hinge that was introduced in late 05 for the 2006 model year. Thumbs Up John
