Minor update - 110 now has my new number plate on it, and a decent alarm (although I thought I'd only paid for an immobiliser, the installers fitted a full alarm, which is probably better!)
I've also swapped the old wipers for some new tripledge ones, which are much better. They don't seem to locate very securely on the arms, with no real positive location, just a dull click. They can be pushed off quite easily while washing, but stay in place in operation thankfully! Anyone got any ideas / experience of this issue? I wonder if the loop on the end of the arms needs bending in a bit... Finally, I had a go at the RR handbrake conversion, and it's all fitted and ready to go, but I'm still using the standard one, as try as I might, I couldn't get the cable to reach! (I'd adjusted it as described in detail elsewhere on here, but no joy!) I hadn't jacked up the rear, so perhaps the transmission brake just needed to rotate a bit to give more play in the cable? I'll have another go when it's a bit drier! She's averaging about 22 to 26 MPG over a mix of commute and motorway miles, so unless there's anything up with the engine, I think a re-map / de-EGR / de-cat / straight-though exhaust might be in Florence's future... Loving the 110 though - took a load of friends and colleagues to the pub for lunch today. I can't do that in the TT! 110 XS TD5 |

Thanks g-mack!
Lots of fairly subtle mods planned for the summer, but before that I think I'll fit one of the plain D44 bumpers, and a steering guard once I find one I like the look of. The window tints have to go, but I'm not looking forward to removing the inevitable sticky residue on the windows! I do like the security from prying eyes they offer, but the reflections are a pain at night, and it's the big glasshouse look of 110's that I've always liked... Going to go back to the standard XS style side steps as well, once I find a set that isn't either rusted to hell, or costs the earth! Got the Dinitrol kit all ready and waiting for when it's warmer and less filthy outside. I'm thinking about interior storage options and audio upgrades too, but I want to drive it for a while in standard trim before I decide what to do! 110 XS TD5 |

Oh, and pumping up the rear tyres from 25 psi or so, up to the recommended 49 took some effort with my trusty foot pump, but it seems to have made the back a little less skittish!
(Thought it was going to spin on me when it got caught by a gust of wind on the way to Watlington on Saturday! That would have been embarrassing...) 110 XS TD5 |

Hi Zero
Glad its going well and changing to suite you, You'll have to post some pics when its got the new bumper and bits, look forward to seeing it and can understand changing the side steps and tint, they weren't the most practical in the world but suited me, thats whats great about defenders with a bit of spanning they can evolve to something different. 25 mpg was what I used to get, only thing is if I were you id try maybe just the rear box removal first as a mate has a straight through and its a bit loud ![]() Do you want me to pay the postage for the old plates if you still have them? drop me an email or Pm to let me know. ![]() Cheers Tom Sorry about the tyres, that was my local tyre place who fitted them before I sold it. I'll have to dig out a picture of it with the all terrains for you to see, but cant get them to upload for some reason? Defender puma dormobile camper |

Always good to see a fresh new member of the Defender family, it brings back fabulous memories of our own first Defender. I am sure everyone else remembers that feeling. No other vehicle produced will give you that same feeling, it is like meeting a family member for the first time in your life. Congratulations!! Great looking specimen!! I wish you all the joys of ownership!! Please keep the pics coming in as she starts to take on your own specific personality! ![]() |

Took advantage of the relatively dry weekend to remove the side bars, and replace the front bumper with a D44 unit.
Before: ![]() Click image to enlarge After: ![]() Click image to enlarge The side bars just took a little WD40, and the application of a little force to get the bolts off! As it's got air-con, the bumper removal needed the grill to come off as well, so got in amongst it with the ACF-50... Fitting the big heavy-duty D44 bumper was a little tricky, as the retaining clips didn't want to go over the thicker steel section, and the retaining threaded plate wouldn't lie flat. Swearing at it seemed to work well... Huge thanks to Devon 4x4 - I ordered the bumper on Thursday lunchtime, and it arrived the next day! All done, and with my new number plate: ![]() Click image to enlarge It doesn't have the 'D44' cut-out I was expecting to the left of the plate, but it still looks the part! ![]() Click image to enlarge I'll be putting the old parts up for sale in the next few weeks, so if anyone wants a stainless steel front bumper, side bars, or real wheel cover surround, keep an eye out on the forum classifieds or eBay! She needs a good clean again - maybe next weekend! 110 XS TD5 |

Love the Bumper Zero, looks very well made and goes with the all black look.
I noticed a nice new crawler mat as well, makes it a lot easier doesnt it! Good thing about Defenders is they look just as good dirty as shiny ![]() Just a picture for reference as your thinking about doing it, here it is when I first bought it without the tint. plus the 285 tyres. (I think your right as looking back all the stainless was a bit much, the black will look much better! The sidesteps your after can just be seen out of shot when I' d just taken them off ![]() Cheers Tom ![]() ![]() Click image to enlarge Defender puma dormobile camper |
