Any tips / tricks / advice on 1st time brake job.
I am about to do a first time, new brake disc (Rotors) and new pads on all four wheels of my MY07 110. Does anyone have any tips /tricks / advice?

Do I need to remove the wheel bearing pack and clean and re-grease as I change out the disc or just leave it alone? (no known issues with the wheel bearings)

You don't need to remove them. Bit I would do away with the spacer and stake nut and revert been to the two nuts and licking tab. Cheers

Make sure you have all the bits and torque settings before you start including fluids and bleed kit, also ensure you have new calliper bolts as they are a one time use on the WOLF fleet I assume they will be on others due to the loctite on them. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

Top tip for stake nuts....

Get genuine ones, I had one genuine one, and one Britpart.
The Britpart one picked the threads up on the stub axle halfway on!

I ended up having to drill it off the stub, then re dressing with a thread file.

Bearings Stake nuts and Bleed kit
Thanks everyone, keep'em coming. Sorry if I come off as dumb, because I really am, this is my first LR.

I have a Workshop manual and the torques settings so that should be good.

As for Stake Nuts, I assume you are referring to the axle nuts. I got replacements from Paddock's. should be good.

I have new caliper bolts coming to. What happens when I go to remove the current ones that prevents me from cleaning them up and re-applying anti-seize to the bolts and use them again?

I will leave the bearing alone, thanks.

JST: you say "do away with the spacer and stake nut and revert been to the two nuts and licking tab." What do you mean by two nuts and a licking tab?

thanks,
Rob

The calliper bolts are coated with a thread locking compound to prevent them from working loose, not a anti-seize compound NEVER use that on the calliper bolts. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

A tip I picked up a few weeks ago was: once you've got your hubs off and want to unbolt the disk bolts, lay your wheel on the ground so the inner face is upwards, place the hub's wheel studs into the wheel holes and this gives you an easy way of holding it while you undo the disk retaining bolts.

Saves wrestling with the hub on the bench or in the vice. Thumbs Up

There's no reference to coating these bolts with anything in the current workshop manual.

Buy a quality 12 point socket for the caliper bolts (13mm,I think),some of them can be tough as hell!Always worth cleaning and greasing bearings especially if they're out, manufacturers are tight Censored when it comes to greasing anything.I stuck with the original stake nut design (new stake nut tho) coz it's simple and it worked. Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5.
