Still not fitted the valve.

The latest updated type of 2.2 VCV valve has a filter at the front. But due to its design it doesn't fit with the filter attached to a (probably) 2012 MY 2.2 engine. Probably, as the engine was swaped mid 2015 due to a oil pump failure.

Just if anyone needed more positive reviews of replacing the vcv, I did mine yesterday and wow.
My chosen tool combination was a 5mm Allen key bit (10mm bit size) fitted into a 10mm rachet spanner with a flexi end. Literally took 15mins to take old one out and put the new one in - removing nothing else. Took it to main dealer today be recalibrated.
£50 calibration, £60 part.
Improvements include:
Fuel consumption, off boost engine pick up, steady idle. It generally sounds much healthier through the gears.

Out of interest did it run ok after fitting the valve and before getting it calibrated (pilot learn)? I didn't get to have my new valve calibrated and I'm now out of the country for a month but I drove the defender all the way from UK to Spain via Dover towing a boat and it's working perfectly with 30 mpg average for the whole trip. Maybe I was lucky and the old cal settings match the new valve? "You are never to old to learn something new"

Internet lore tells that the calibration irons out tolerances in manufacture (and so optimizes mpg, responsiveness, whoknowswhat...).

After experiencing engine power issues without any engine fault codes, I found this thread (thank you!).

I ordered and I received the UK Diesel Parts VCV and now I am preparing to do the the VCV swap, but I have a question...or two.

(1) Do I need to remove the current BAS remap and go back to the original factory map before I swap out VCV?
(2) Is the second generation 'Bell Auto Service Remote Remap Control' (BAS2 RRC) capable of performing the VCV 're-learn' process?

Once the job is complete, I will report back on the success/failure, tools, remap/relearn, and suitability of the UK Diesel Parts VCV valve.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide.

Kirk

Kuwait
1: Needs to happen for part 2, so yes, may as well do it before the swap.
2: Yes, it's the same two functions you did before programming the original BAS remap. One doesn't appear to do much at all, the other plays around with the engine idling and bothers your neighbors.
(3: Apply BAS remap again 😆🤖) Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

VCV calibration should be done on the factory map:
