Italy 2008 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 SW Zermatt Silver
I need help: Puma goes in Limp mode
From some days my Def 90 SW 2008 is going into Limp mode without any fault code.
It happens when the engine is hot only. When it is cold it works well.
I have EGR disconnected and all original (ECU map, intercooler etc.).
I cleaned MAP sensor but nothing changed.
Help please.

Which code reader are you using? If you are monitoring with a generic EOBD scanner, you might not be seeing the whole picture for codes feeding into the limphome reaction. You need to use a tool that is capable of reading the Landrover OEM code data. Even better, if you can monitor a couple of channels of live data, you can easily work-out what is causing the engine to derate. A good start is to monitor the coolant temperature, air temperature, clutch switch, brake switch. These are the sort of things that will cause a sudden drop in performance. Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads.

At the end I found the problem.
First of all I want underline that I needed to reconnect EGR, because when I had EGR disconnected with ScangougeII (that I have fitted permanently) I was able to read DTC P1402 and P1409 only.
Once reconnected EGR and cleared those fault codes when limp mode start I was able to read DTC P2562 Turbocharger Boost Control Position Sensor "A" Circuit.
So I'm sure that I have to repair turbocharger's actuator (and reconnect EGR too).

You might be able to repair the turbo actuator without replacing it. The Honeywell electrical actuator is well known for putting out the DTC P2564 Turbocharger Boost Control Position Sensor "A" Circuit Low anyway, but a good check of the wiring and the plug at the actuator could have this problem fixed. If it does prove to be the actuator, and not the wiring, you will need someone with a tool that can reset the adaption limits for top and bottom "electronic stops" on the actuator. Most of the professional scan tools that cover the 2.4Puma can do this, and you might find that even a basic tool can perform the service reset on the turbo.

Let us know how you get on, as I have a few tricks that you can do without a scantool to help this problem. Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads.

They told me they checked the harness of turbocharger's actuator but my car don't need any modification or repair on it.

They told me they solve the problem I had with a software up-date only Shocked , but the egr valve is not working properly.

So they are going to change egr valve. Rolling Eyes

The question is: is it possible that a car needs a software up-date after 5 years and 84000 km Evil or Very Mad ?????????? I'm thinking of buying a TOYOTA a.s.a.p.

I'm depressed.

The car seems OK Thumbs Up ! Something really changed: EGR valve stays more closed (by ScangougeII reading) than before, now it stays between 8 and 20 % a lot more. Driving the car is very smooth and it accelerates quickly. Fingers crossed.

The EGR can make quite a difference in performance, when working as it should it's fine but if isn't it saps a lot of power. A service and new EGR can make the world of difference. It did on mine. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

A new EGR makes a huge difference.

Mine hadn't failed but was starting to make some squeeking noises when the valve was moving so I put a new one on, the difference was like I'd had a remap. Craig Rogers
