There's no reason why not if you can find a suitably weatherproof but non-permanent adhesive. It'll have to be pretty strong though, as I'd imagine the uplift force from the wind on the leading edge would be significant above, say, 50mph.
The only other problem may be that all the decent chequer plate kits are pre-drilled with countersunk holes, so you'd need to do some faffing about with false bolt heads to disguise them. Not sure I'd have any faith the glue was strong enough to stop them flying off on a motorway but weak enough to be removable one day.

They do pretend to make a solvent but I wouldn't want to test it on my car.

If you really really hate it, you could always fit another pair of wings !

I wouldn't rate your chances of getting them off without damage if you use Sikaflex If you prepare the panels well I would have thought using a good quality double sided vehicle body tape would suffice but you would need plenty of it - and patience if it ever changed your mind and wanted to remove the plate, you still might run the risk of damaging the vehicle finish even with a good and safe solvent.
Do you want them for their functionality or for the way they make the vehicle look and for what that implies? The original point of riveting thick bits of aluminium to the wing and bonnet tops was to provide additional strength to permit walking on them to gain access to the roof, it also served to protect the wing panels underneath from dents and damage from tools and elbows while working in the engine bay. I find the wing top chequerplate the most useful of all. Cups of tea, coffee, tools etc. and of course leaning on. Without it the wings would undoubtedly get dented/marked quite quickly.
Here's a picture of my mates when his overweight Mrs lent on his wing to see what he was doing under the bonnet...bet he wished he'd fitted chequerplate. Had a quick search but can't seem to find it now - can anyone remember or point me in the right direction for the thread relating to inner strengthening brackets that could be or even where required to stop the wings bending in if you did walk on them? |

Excellent - top wing support brackets...no obvious threads about them: So a few questions: 1. Anyone fitted them? 2. Do they do the job? 3. Any photos of them fitted? 4. Does anyone else do an alternative support? |
