Drawer runners
Hi,

I'm planning on building a set of rear drawers for my Def90 and am struggling to find a supply of long (approx 1 metre) drawer slides at a decent price.

Any suggestions for suppliers, or alternative installation ideas welcome.

RS Online stock the accuride runners which are about the best but not cheap!
You might be able to find a local stockist via Hafele the wholesalers for accuride.

Thanks, I've seen the Accuride runners, great product, but my design needs 7 pairs, so was hoping for something less than £100/pair (considerably less..!).

At those prices, I need an alternative design... Shocked

I have considered it, but I want to be able to pull the drawers out and have them support themselves. If I rely on friction runners, I would only be able to pull them 1/2 way out, otherwise they'd fall out..!

I've ended up with 7 drawers as I want to split the load area. 2 for waffle boards, 2 for ropes/towing/recovery gear, 1 for the high lift jack, 1 for food and 1 for cooker/worktop space.

Post up some pics if you don't mind when you do it. I'm toying with the idea myself.


Here is my initial rough sketch of what I want to achieve. I'm learning Google Sketchup so I can make a better set of drawings. However, if I cant find affordable drawer slides, Ill need to find another approach.

Due to them not having much weight you should get away with runners from your local B&Q t about £10 a pair (about 70-90cm)). Do you need the full meter, I have been looking for mine and the set I am now look at are 70cm long and will cost me 6 Euros each.... for a saving of £90 a pair I can live with them being 30cm short. The weight limit is only 60Kg for a pair, but with so many draws I am guessing you wont have that weight in yours.

As you say, with so many drawers I don't need so much weight. I only need a metre for the waffle boards. If I could get 90cm I'd be happy. A trip to B&Q sounds a good idea... Thumbs Up

Do you really need a drawer for the waffles? Why not just a suitably sized slot? The other thing with waffles is that they're a pain to stow inside when they're full of mud. Darren

I was thinking of a slot, but as you say they can get full of mud. My idea was to create a tray, on rails, that they can sit in and I can remove if/when they get covered in mud. If it was just a slot, I think it would get full of mud that would be hard to clean.

I don't want the waffle boards on the outside, and this was the only practical way I could get them inside.

I don't envisage using them a lot, its just for emergencies.
