A defender is as we know as efficient as a house at cutting through air. Does anyone out there do leading-edge air deflectors for the front wings and leading-edge of the cab. I ask as all I can find on Google is window shields. I'm thinking that if air is redirected horizontally rather than vertically some mpg could be gained?
Any ideas? Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon. |

^^^That is probably about right.
Even if there were things to deflect air you would probably have to do about 30,000 odd miles to recoup the cost of the items ![]() Glyn ![]() ![]() |

8x4 sheet of MDF..... place the top end across the windscreen then angle it down over the bonnet.
YOu might need to cut a viewing hole so you can see where you're heading though! ![]() |

Drill large holes in the chassis to lighten things up. Much better MPH then.

You could also strap a Dyson underneath to get more downforce, until of course the plug get yanked out from the socket ![]() |

It seems any mention of tyring to improve the mpg of a defender is frowned upon. But here i go anyway. Would a lightweight steering guard that is solid without any holes in it help to direct the air under the car and away from the axles? Then it might reduce drag a bit?

I'm sure one of the comics took a 90 up to the Britpart headquarters to see how they could get the most mpg out of it. They started off lightening it, putting road tyres on it and it ended up "streamlined" All excess panels were taken off, roof, sides, doors, windscreen anything that would unbolt. Then they shrink wrapped IIRC Kev Mills into it and sent him on his way. I think it got into the high 40's on the mpg front.
I think that to streamline a Defender, the leading edge of the kit will be about 10m out in front of the bumper! It's bad enough pulling out on some of the junctions round here without having to sit even further away from the white line ![]() |

the most efficient aerodynamic upgrade you can do on a Defender is to put a spare wheel on the bonnet. --

As is getting your haircut, trimming your toe nails, not wearing socks and leaving your undercrackers at home for added weight saving. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Get an old soft-top, put the roof down, screen folded flat, duck behind the steering wheel and use a periscope.
