correct, brought her to a car-hifispecialist to get it done, only to find out after the set was powered that I installed the cam twisted with the result that up was down and vice versa. Fixed it yesterday evening and now everything is fine:

that's a great head unit Kraut.

can you post some pictures when you have the rear view camera connected to it.

i was thinking of doing similar but with 2 cameras, one for reversing and one for rear view.

i think that head unit has a power input from reverse light to trigger the reverse camera.

coolest thing would be to have a front and rear camera for parking and somehow have them switched on below a certain speed.

any ideas from the electronics geniuses out there?

Thanks, indeed i'm very pleased with the system!

The picture above already shows the screen when cam is switched on. And yes, it comes with a cable at the headunit for the rear signal, but did not use it to be able to switch it manually, probably funny watching what the people are doing behind me while stopping at traffic lights Very Happy

Just out of interest anyone running upgraded tweeters on top the dash instead of the LR standard ones? If so what are you using? (Expecting to hear Focal & maybe Alpine here) Was it worthwhile? WeWillWinπŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Does the OEM head unit in a PUMA have any outputs or is it the usual crappy-crap-crap no output standard head unit?

I have a hankering to nail this thread!

Yes, a stereo pair of line outs, speaker out puts or just a block connector on the back?

This may have already been asked in this thread, but I couldn't see it, so apologies if so. Has anyone upgraded the speaker wire as part of the upgrade process? Is there any need to? Or is it OK just to stick with the standard LR wired connections? Might have a crack at fitting the new HU today, time permitting. Wish me luck! 2005 Td5 | 90 Station Wagon | Tonga Green

Andy - In affect no. Not as far as I am aware there is nothing. (There is exceptions but special edition Defenders with Clarion units ect) Regardless it's well worth upgrading to an aftermarket Head Unit. Not only for quality and extra options but as like you say outputs. You'll also have much better audio control for example sub power control frequency adjustment and much more.

Green Machine - I didn't simply because there isn't a massive power difference between either the HU output or the new speaker draw. It's a 10cm swap for another 10cm speaker but with a bit more power. If it was swapping for a 16cm or a 6x9's then it would be a good idea as the power is much larger.
Good luck with the fitting. Cool WeWillWinπŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Hmm, after having a proper look at it I'm not so sure about the fitting now. In a Td5 it seems most of the upper dash is going to have to come out to run the wires neatly. I've got a microphone that needs fixing to the top of the dash and the wire running behind, and then a USB port/cable that needs to run out from behind the HU to one of the little cubby holes in the dash, or to the cubby box. I thought there might be some handy little gaps, but there aren't really. I don't mind taking the dash to bits, just wasn't planning on doing that today. I'll give it some more thought! 2005 Td5 | 90 Station Wagon | Tonga Green

How about the mic going on the column surround just behind the steering wheel? Surely easier to trail wires there? WeWillWinπŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

OK thanks. I guess taking the head unit out and having a look would have been easier but thanks for saving me that hassle! It's been a long time since I looked seriously at car ICE and back then I think JL Audio were the woofers I'd picked and for the life of me I can't remember what speakers!

But I'm aiming to install a simple system that doesn't mess up the functionality of the car at all so will probably put a couple of small woofers down the back where the rear speakers are at the moment and a set of two way components up front somewhere. I don't need silly levels of bass but would like some punch and clout to go with some higher volume levels. I'll have a closer look when I get a moment...

Thanks again.

Your welcome. I don't crank mine up too far because I can't stick the bass. Rolling with laughter WeWillWinπŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

I have installed a set of Alpine speakers with tweeters in the top of the dash. All things considered (29 year old vehicle) I think the sound quality is spot on. Certainly for a pre-Puma Land Rover it actually means you can "listen" to the wireless rather than just a background noise! Laughing
