Mantec Spare wheel carrier
Hi all,

Ordered Mantec Spare wheel carrier which arrived last week. Looks pretty easy to fit - anyone else fitted one and if so any 'gotcha's to be aware of?

I'm still not looking forward to drilling out the rivets for the upper mounting bracket though... Rolling Eyes Cheers,

Been thinking of one, but they are expensive for what they are. Cheaper ones around sold by Paddock, for example. Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. 2006 Defender 90 Td5 XS CSW Santorini Black
Had one fitted by pete and lewis from flatdog at billing yesterday and watched them do it ...

key points are remove door card carefully to avoid breaking the retaining clips ... gentle drilling out of the two left hand rivets in two stages ... check fit of mounting plate by offering up the bolts and plate from the outside first ... don't tighten the bolts on the lower hanger plate as you might need to ease the arm in to fit ... metal washers on the top of the top mount and the bottom of the bottom mount ... and piston mounting plate is offset so shorter side goes to the left/handle side of teh door

other than that it's probably a 45 min job

Like lots of things there are always cheaper options but are they as good?

A few things to consider. Are grease nipples fitted as standard? What size are the brackets? Reinforcing brackets? Where do the brackets mount? i.e. will they interfere with rear bumperette/NAS step fitment?

Fitted
Fitted mine today. No real issues although Mantec's instructions need updating... minor points really. Only 1 rivet to drill out on the upper mount on mine and one new hole to drill. Plus the fitting plate on the door has bolts already on it. Took me about 2hours in total as I wanted to get it right.

Was there a reason for the metal washer being on top of the top mount as the instructions show it as underneath?

Just to confirm that the white poly inserts are located the same way too (mine were loose in the packaging after falling out during transportation).
I need to adjust it a little, as despite spending ages lining it all up I have a noticeable banging noise from the back. Can't see anything loose but will look closer when I have time. Cheers,
