Yup I've had two of these now, one on my old MG ZS and the other on the last 90. Both times it was just a case of swapping the spade connectors over to the new horn.

The hardest part on both was getting to the horn in the first place Laughing


Those little snail shaped self contained Nautilus horns are good in that they are easy to install and have a reasonable output for their size but they really don't compare to a proper compressed air from a tank driven horn. This is a Grover Stuttertone air horn [as fitted to US firetrucks] running off onboard air on one of my previous Defenders.



The old compressor driven Fiamm two tone hi - lo horns as fitted to fire appliances produce a strident and attention getting sound when fired up together [ie with the rotating valve disc inside the compressor that alternately directs air to each horn removed or if run off a standard air horn compressor]. Steve.
Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades.
Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW.

Must find out where the horn is on the Audi A2 - the current one makes a pathetic "toot" noise. Even my wife is embarrassed to use it.

I could have some fun with an upgrade Twisted Evil Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

Is there enough room to fit a bigger horn in the LR horn space (in a TDCi engine bay), or would I need extension wiring & to fit it elsewhere? Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender

There's plenty of room behind the headlamps yes but if you are looking to mount a long trumpet type then it gets a bit tight. Steve.

Good luck with that. It's on the offside behind the front bumper. From memory you have to remove the headlight just to be able to see it, let alone get at it!

The airtank and compressor that the guys in the clip fit is somewhat overkill for the job. The Nathan Airchime (and its UK-licensed equivalent, the Hyson) is actually set up to speak at 10psi, although the volume of air is a bit of an issue. An ARB airlocker compressor and reservoir will work fine for a two-tone Hyson horn (as used for 30 years on BR diesels) as long as you don't want more than about 15 seconds at a time.

However being serious for a moment I think it is actually too loud for a vehicle horn; you don't actually want to kill granny with a heart-attack, or shock people into having accidents!

My old D2 only had one low tone horn, high tone was missing, never got around to replacing it. On my Defender I have only found one low tone horn behind the N/S headlight. Nothing behind the O/S light.
The horn is embarrasing, not so much Land Rover Defender, more like Morris Minor Embarassed

I was going to fit the LR high tone but instead now I have fitted a Stebel Nautilus Truck horn.

Heeps louder and better, I have had a few sets of triple air horns in the past when I lived in England, but this is great as it just fits in nicely where the original horn should go. Now if I give a split second toot I get the original toot-toot horn, fine if your going past someone you know and want to give a wave, but hold it longer than a nano second and you get the full blast.Fooking loud as Shocked

^^ Wouldnt mind one of those myself. Though Id like it wired up to a seperate switch on the dashboard to reduce accidental use.
