I think the fewer nooks and crannies the water can sit, the fewer places that will rust. If it has to drain, then better just at the corners and straight down. That's why I'll fill the middle section in... Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

I have sealed my corners and on members motors, it can still get in but not so much and only when it rains heavily
 Some have been done at the factory where they thumb in Dum Dum but not very well  Black window non hardening sealant again before you ask Matt   |

mines the same - rubber not wide enough..... or should I be saying due to the poor qa and excessive tolerances in the manufacture of the door the rubber strip won't fit as intended.....
should I ask for a new door  |

Incidentally, are there many vehicles designed to trap water coming off the windows in a gutter and then channel it to soak the steel inside the doors? Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

the dealers are going to love me..... new door please.....and while you're at it - new seats (paint rusting / flaking off) head light bezels (rusting) mud flap brakets (rusting) oh and perhaps they can have another look at the drivers lock that sticks closed when cold.  |

Rust issues on a Defender are really something you will have to address yourself. They can replace most of it out but it will only happen again unless you treat it yourself....you will have to anyway when the warranty runs out.
Once the new parts have been replaced, treat it all and you won't have any problems. Some parts can be changed for SS parts like the bezels for a permanent solution of course |

Buy a decent firm seat that's well-designed and doesn't  up your back on long journeys (okay - that's probably just my problem) or rub down, treat and/or Hammerite the rusty bits or cover up with sticky-back plastic (if it's good enough for Blue Peter...) Are the seats rusting on the weld points or is it on the actual tubing and brackets. If it is localised on welds I would rub down, acid convert with Ku-Rust or similar then paint. If it is more widespread it depends how good you are with painting/masking./spraying etc! Otherwise it's back to the dealer who will probably send it off to be done but I would stay with the vehicle and make sure they do it properly
A lot of the metal on these motors isn't undercoated properly or at all All good fun for the DIYer  |

Yes it stops it dead. It only does surface rust though (fine for seat frame rust!) so need to wire brush, shot/sand/soda blast etc most of the rust off or for smaller parts dip in one of the rsut stripping solutions. Plenty of other products which are the same and can be used in a more bulk capacity although I did two axles and other bits with one small pot of Ku-rust with POR-15 over the top, Sorted for good
