There are plastic joints which the ali tube slides into.

Right, just wanted to finish this thread off for future reference.

Once I had painted the rear using the loadbed liner paint I refitted the MSS draw and started work on the side panel. I wanted switches for the water pump, light and a few other bits anbd bobs:

Today I finally got round to cutting up the dog gurad that Jon (Part Monkey) kindly donated and have made the final part - a removeable shelf for the euro boxes to sit on:
