Help!!!Wolf Wheel Problems
Help

Can anyone give me any advice, ive just been out fitting set of wolf wheels to my 2011 my xs dc, i was told by john craddock where i got the wheels and tyres from and by other forum members that they would fit right on.

It seems that the wheel stud is 2 or 3 threads from protruding through the nut, is this normal? or ok? can anyone help please.

I know on some land rovers you need to change the studs as they are too short for wolf wheels. sounds like yours is one of the ones that need to studs changing.

Hi mate

Yes they are just short, 1 or 2mm, of flush do you think thats ok? i am torqueing up to 125 ft/lbs so i cant see them coming off,plus 1 is a locking nut so thats longer than the others.

Thinking back when i had a 200tdi i put d1 steel wheels on it and i think they were the same!

Wolf wheels are alot heavier than standard and therefore need a longer stud as the steel around stud holes is thicker and hence needs to be stronger. When changing hubs need to be removed. If done carefully all you'll need extra will be some new flange gaskets. I have just done this swap and will be fitting my new wolfs tomorrow hopefully, if the new genuine nuts have arrived.

Standard studs are fine in my humble opinion, early land rovers around 93 had shorter studs. Do a search round the internet and read the different opinions. Original Member Pie n Pea Club.

Isnt there something to do with a mark on the end of the stud? If its got a bit stamped on it its ok and if it hasnt then they need replacing with longer ones?

Dean,

Just checked mine - threads sit inside nuts circa 1mm, can get my finger nail inside edge of nut.

Never had a problem in the last 2 years on a TD5.

Hi
yes thought of that and tried but guess what there shut till the 3rd and i had time to swap today, plus dont want to get fobbed off by craddocks.
I ve done a search and it seems even the mod dont use the longer stud length and there have been no reported problems.

Yes i could swap studs but then come spring when i want to swap back id need shorter studs for the boosts and swapping stud again would be a pain in the arse.

Before changing to the Mack 5 rims, I use wolf steels after bending disco wheels for a past time when use hard !!! off road,,
Ran with the short studs, never a problem California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1

Brand new from the factory with HD steel rims they have the normal length studs on, with the 1~2mm depth thing.

No problem at all.
