I'll give it a try again, prying top and bottom. Now i know that's how it comes apart I will be less worried about breaking things.

| Not quite sure I follow. When you say "the panel that the switches mounted to", are you referring to the recessed 2 x 3 panel the switches are on, or the entire panel under the dash? |

Also I sorted out the illumination for the AC. Only the temperature selection (blue one) was lighting dimly. Sorted with a couple LEDs
