there can be a seal there, i tend to leave them out and let axle oil lubricate the bearings.
not all vintages had them there anyway. not all shafts have a flat for them to ... |

| Seems we have different valves between the 2.4 and 2.2. I haven't seen the component myself but seen reports on here that the 2.4 valve is serviceable. |
