Thinking about it, I'm not sure I undid those pipes when I did mine, most of it I left in place or disconnected further up the pipe.

Yes it is possible to get the friction plate the wrong way round, and I can see how it could be very easily done given the way a new clutch kit comes packaged...

The old release bearing was totally fine, looked pretty much like the new one, span freely, no excessive play or grinding.

To close the case on this...

Worn front shock absorber bushes, picked up at the MOT. Replaced and rattle gone!

And there I was about to rebuild the front diff Smile
