I copy that recommendation from BASF (Glysantin). It is plausible because the protective additives are logically consumed:
"Regularly changing the radiator protection agent is necessary every three to four years, depending on the product used and the vehicle manufacturer's recommendations. This is important because the protective additives contained in the coolant degrade over time. The antifreeze protection is maintained for a longer period of time, but the comprehensive corrosion protection, for example, is no longer guaranteed without the additives that are appropriately matched to the cooling system." |

Every 2 years is what I believe the manual states. It's what I do. Make sure you use the correct coolant. I now use Comma Xstream G30 and get it from Opie Oils.

The texaco delo xlc meets this spec, https://www.texacolubricants.com/en_uk/hom...olant.html It’s orange in colour, Is the stuff LR use plus rebadge and sell as their own. It is really good antifreeze. Dilute 50/50 with deionised water, available cheap from supermarkets as people use in irons In fact when you read the customer benefits section in the above link they say it’s good for 650,000km ! With the caveat “These are general indications. Some OEM’s may have their own specific guidelines, and these should always take precedence” I always go less on fluid changes, I.e no more than 5k miles between engine oil changes, so 60k miles / 5 years won’t hurt for coolant. I did mine at approx 60k miles when I replaced my main Radiator, I expect a rad fail will be less than 120k miles or 10 years so that will likely dictate coolant change interval more than service schedule. I can see online that pre mixed 50/50 texaco delo xlc is available for £30 in a a 20l can, so that would be good for 2 changes , I.e 10 / 20 years worth. In concentrate form It’s not easy to come by in less than 20l concentrate cans but I got a 20l can from opie when it was in a clearance sale and with forum discount and free postage it worked out reasonable, noting given dilution and times between changing I now have at least 40 years worth but still cheaper than buying 5L from landrover.[/url] |

An alternative I used recently was to source the coolant from Ford as used in the Transit since it was cheaper and immediately available here. The WSS-M97B44-D spec is a Ford spec, so I'm happy sourcing the coolant from Ford.
For the record the Ford reference is FU7J19544BD (5L) or FU7J19544AD (1L), both need to be diluted 50/50 with deionized water before being poured into the engine. /Mat |

If yours is a 2.2 you may not have a fuel cooler, in which case you can drain from the oil cooler. However this will still leave coolant in the radiator, so disconnecting a lower rad pipe will help drain that.
