K90 - The Sequel!
Picked it up today. I don’t think it will get as heavily modified as the prequel, but it’s already going back in for tyres as they fitted the wrong set! The rear bumper protector is going on tomorrow, bulkhead coming out and and dog box and drawers going in.

Bit awkward, but straight forward enough. Once you’ve released it you need to turn it to get it out, which isn’t possible unless you take off one of the brackets that holds it to the body.

Cheers Stuart. The plan with the other was minimal mods and look where that ended up!! It will be on its third set of tyres within its first week with me, although that’s the dealers fault, not mine!

First 400 miles done and first impressions are almost all positive. Great to drive and I was quite happy sitting there for 3 hours. Seats are super comfy. Did a real mix of M, A and B roads and returned 36.9mpg which is better than I was expecting. The 360 cameras are great and I didn’t miss not having the clear sight rear view camera.

Bad bits, the windscreen wash wipe is terrible. There were fly splatted all over the screen to the point that I had to stop to clean them off. The wipers literally did nothing. In contrast, the wife’s RRS makes mince meat of them. Also, the drivers side mirror is already making a bit of a noise when it folds itself. Not exactly a big issue and will get it sorted under warranty.

Overall, happy as Larry! Will be off road this weekend where I’ll be able to get a direct comparison with the old one. Comparing road manners between the old and new is pretty pointless, despite all the work I did to make the old one more comfortable.

Had it off road today in what is pretty much a direct comparison with the old landy. There are some pheasant feeders I drive to on an ever increasing incline and in the old landy I could only ever get to the second feeder before traction and angle let me down, so I had my reference.

Now, it’s not strictly back to back comparison. The old landy had KO2’s and ATB centre and rear diff. The new landy has Duratracs, was set to mud ruts and had the wife at the wheel. Both were done in low range. The result? Identical! Got to exactly the same place. The inclinometer was showing 29 degrees, so a fair angle before I just couldn’t get any traction.

I have to say, the old landy felt more controllable with its manual box. Might just be me getting used to the new one, but I just don’t think it gives the same amount of driver feedback.

When I removed the bulkhead, it leaves a gap between the mat in the back and the facia on the front, and we can’t have that.

I decided on a strip of Sapele as it’s incredibly dense and hard wearing and then added a strip of steel across the top to give it more protection. Where the bulkhead sits into the frame, the wood would need to be profiled to fit in snugly, like this:

Anyhow, after a few coats of Danish oil on the wood, and Buzzweld CIO on the steel (as that’s all I had). This is how it turned out:

It serves the purpose, but I’m not sure on how it looks. I think maybe the gloss top looks out of place?
