Thumbs Up Well…. It’s not going great so far Big Cry water pump, flywheel, snapped turbo to downpipe studs and an unknown hole in the new block! I’m hoping it will all get sorted reasonably soon though. Unfortunately my new fuse box didn’t turn up for the golf either (stuck in customs) so I’m resorting to my dad driving me around (which is scary) and dropping the kids at school for the moment! Ray

Unknown hole? Like a missing core plug or sensor?

Not sure, the supplier asked for photos from the garage to compare to ones they have in stock so I’m waiting on more info. The garage says there are two holes on the left below the alternator just above the sump, one is threaded with a blanking plug and the other looks like it goes into an oil gallery or water jacket but isn’t threaded so I guess we’ll see. Ray

Thumbs Up! Apparently the hole should have been tapped and plugged so they are sending out a plug for the garage to sort it. Ray

Have you bought a second hand engine to fit or a new one?

always interests me as to how i'd go about a new one if the time comes. mines done 105k which a great service record which i have kept up so i'm hoping i'll get another 100k no bother.

my other td5 has done 125k with some service history, seems to be okay so far.

I don’t think you can get completely new anymore so the one I ended up with is everything new including all internals, head etc but a reconditioned block. I got 152k on the old engine and I don’t think it was looked after before I got it t 70k ish Ray
