Retro fit / aftermarket tow bars
Hi Folks,

I am in the market for a new defender 110, given the current wait times for a new one I am looking at dealer stock and used defenders.

I have noticed that a surprising number of them don’t have tow bars, and I need one for towing my stock trailer.

Does anyone know if I could retro fit one, and is there any aftermarket tow bars available as yet for the 110?

Cheers 👍

Yes you can get multi height tow bar it’s on the Land Rover configurator. There used to be a removable tow bar but they have removed it from the website, I’m not sure if that is because of supply issues or if there has been problems with it on other peoples vehicles. There is a guy in the Facebook group who has it and pulls a trailer he’s having major problems with it something to do with the air suspension keeping the trailer too levelled and its clattering up and down on the bar like it’s going to pop off! This only happens when the trailer is empty it sorts itself out once a load is on. His dealership are working with him to sort an alternative out and that’s the multi height one, others in the group haven’t had a problem with that type as far as I’m aware.

There are parts shortages with some towbar options it seems, so I presume that is why it’s been taken off the configurator. The multi-height one above is a dealer-fit accessory and so your dealer could do it for you. You could fit the towbar itself DIY easily enough as it’s just nuts and bolts, but the module needs fitting and the main system telling a towbar is fitted so the various functions are available.

Not seen any aftermarket ones available yet but I am sure it won’t be long. Westfalia make the Land Rover ones.

I had a removable tow bar fitted by a dealer last year but it did take a long time for them to source the required parts. They said that there were significant supply issues due to Covid.

I’ve only used it a couple of times to tow my caravan due to Covid restrictions but I’ve had no issues

I ordered the full kit fro Landrover on Friday.
1st off they said the module is on back order, now they say just the bar is on back order.
Thing is, you don’t get a delivery schedule unless you order it.
Pretty sure I can code it in myself, we have done plenty of other cars, worst case will be a pass through device to Landrover themselves.
Not getting the car until the end of March, so hopefully the bar will turn up soon enough.

A long day but worth it. Kit from Tow Bars Uk. A great kit. Involved but not complicated.

Did you fit the module as well? If not, any issues with the cars functions etc? Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy.

Retro fit tow bar.
Wiring kit and module all plugged in perfectly and cameras and reversing sensors all happy. Bit awkward to access the plug with the seven seats but once the Jack tray removed it was easy.

Adds a lot of weight compared to the aluminium crash bar that it replaces!
