lnteresting comments, all valid.

l also bought my new Defender outright, well apart from a bank loan for about 20% of it.

No PCP for me, l like to think l will eventually own the vehicle. Modern electronics are pretty reliable, l think a lot of new Defenders will fall by the wayside after a decade because people don't want to look after their vehicles nowadays.

Look at the number of new vehicles with filthy wheels, green mould on the roof, unrepaired dents, interior a pigsty

Three years and they'll get a new one, so who cares.

Looked after, l think a new Defender will last a long time. The difference (compared to the old model) is that it's unlikely rough ones will get resurrected after a decade of uncaring owners.

But with ULEZ etc. it won't be able to leave your drive. Laughing Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy.

Let’s hope the 40 year tax and MOT exemption doesn’t change. 2008 2.4 110 Utility XS.

the wife's RRS is now 12 years old, costs a bit more in terms of repairs, but if our Defender goes
as long, as it is our last major motor purchase, then 12 years is long enough..in fact 10 and i will
be more than happy Wink yet another pommie bar steward down under

My vehicle is still going strong after 124 years. So simple its ultimately repairable. These new fangled electronic gizzmo's not so much. Or all of the complex plastic moulding of the both the exterior and interior. 10-15 years max lifespan.

It is ironic that it will still be going strong long after infernal combustion engines (including those in hybrid vehicles) have ceased to be usable. I imagine that the problem eventually will become the fuel, the current antipathy to coal mining does not bode well for anyone in the heritage sector.

Nearly all traditional steam relies upon carbon in some form, usually hydrocarbon.

It's probably allowed in all the UK low and ultra-low emission zones as well! Rolling with laughter

Cracking set up that! Might struggle in a multi-story car park!

Black wolf- it’s fine, lights up very well on pallet wood! And yes as a historic vehicle I can go in any low emission zone.
Co1 - I generally park it where I want, wheel clamps don’t fit!! 🤭

Wood is not carbon extracted from underground, therefor not adding to global warming and thus seen as green. They are running whole power plant on that stuff now.

You are the future of (external) combustion motorized transport!
