Sounds like engine not yet reached full operating temperature, so thermostat still closed. Especially if you were using the heater to warm the cabin, with low external temperatures, and not too much load on the engine. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

You want more like a 20 mile round trip and with the heaters off, depends on ambient temperature but it can take a while to get up to temperature.

Thanks Steve, I’ll take it for a longer drive only thing I didn’t do was disconnect the oil thermostat coolant hose 😬

Update So I took it for a longer drive today 50 miles in total with the heater off the car was cutting in and out of power then died temp was half way, heater on alway is very hot and but drives okay rad was cold when I got back engine running but when switched it off rad was hot on the top right hand corner 😕 Anyone has this issue before?
