United Kingdom 1997 Defender 110 300 Tdi SW Corris Grey
I have a separate took kit in the LR as I do in the shed. This never used to be the case, but after several cases of "I have that tool, oh wait I forgot to put it back..." I decided to invest. I got reasonable quality but cheap (US Pro) tools, they are good enough to do something, but I wont cry if they get lost.

This is a very comprehensive tool kit, but that is because of how we use the vehicle, we do a lot of self supported traveling often in fairly remote places, if I was just using it on a farm of around town I would probably carry a lot less. I have tried to keep it as minimal as possible but also cover as much as possible. I have not really bothered with spare parts - whatever I have is going to be the wrong thing and (touch wood) we have never not been able to get something within a day or two.

Oh and PS we drive a 300tdi (don't boo me....) so there might be some Tdci specific things I have missed out?

General tools:
1) 6-32mm 25 piece spanner set (this is overkill I will admit, but it covers everything)
2) Small adjustable wrench (this works in combination with the above to give me two spanners)
3) Pair of mole grips - big ones and needle nose ones (for when the above wont cut it and violence is the answer!)
4) Linesman pliers and needle nose pliers (I use these a lot)
5) 10-24mm (10 sockets) 1/2 inch socket set (I haven't really bothered with many sockets, they weigh more compared to spanners and normally don't fit in the gap, I focused on spanners accepting the fact the job might take longer! They are 1/2 drive only because all my other 'specialist' sockets are and this keeps down the duplication of another 3/8 wrench and bars and also the diff plugs and T box plugs all accept 1/2 square drive)
6) 1/2 inch breaker bar (to be used either with the sockets or as a wheel brace)
7) Bottle jack with no handle (I use the breaker bar as the handle)
Cool Screw driver (more of a leaver) and one of those ones with assorted selections of various drives (this has seen me though many problems as otherwise you never have the right size screw driver, end up rounding something off and then everybody gets upset!)

More Specific tools:
9) Pair of propshaft spanners
10) Socket for wheel nuts - 27mm? (I used a 1/2 inch socket (see above) and went for a larger deep one)
11) Fan spanner (I could probably make do without this, but it makes life easier)
12) Wheel bearing socket - 50mm?
23) Set of punches for wheel bearings etc (I got these as part of a set and was going to take out the really small ones I don't need but left them in the end and they have been useful for cleaning out bolt holes, scraping away bits of dirt and muck etc)
24) Hammer - for wheel bearings mostly
25) The weird star / hex drive that goes into the gearbox

'Electrics'
26) Jump leads
27) Cheap multi meter (with the battery kept separate, it solves so much guess work)
2Cool A handful of scotch locks, a few m of wire wire and some crocodile clips (its a bit of a get out of jail free card and have got some funny breakdown stories involving this!)

Other / parts
29) Hi Viz,
30) Gloves
31) Rags (I wrap the sockets up in them to stop them rattling)
32) Most fluids
33) Tube of grease
34) Spare belt
35) Spare fuel filter
36) Spare wheel bearing
37) Spare drive flange (We don't carry one any more since upgrading to HD flanges)
3Cool Spare UJ
39) Self amalgamating tape, gaffa tape, electrical tape
40) Bulb set
41) Beer
42) Sense of humor

I think that's it? Like I said its a lot, but that's because of what we do. I think everyone would be slightly different, but for me the most important tools are the really odd ones that a passer by / the AA / whoever might not have.

I'm not going to take mine apart at the roadside or going far from the beaten track so I throw in:

Wera Maintanance kit - nice combo of sockets, drivers, combination 10/13mm spanner

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wera-135926-Kraft...;sr=1-1-9d§a94926-7ed6-4658-a5f6-311a570a4be5

The doubled up combo spanner set

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wera-Combination-...SBVF6?th=1

A small hammer, some mole grips, some electric pliers with a crimper, wheel brace and 27mm. Have some stiff wire, crimps, tape, cable ties, Jubilee clips, self amalg tape, duct tape, insulating tape, fuses, bulbs.

I also have a jump start box

https://www.amazon.co.uk/NOCO-GB40-UltraSa...mp;sr=8-41

Easily fits in the battery box.
