Morning all,
Forgot to mention on recent posts that whilst the Def was on the ramp I took the opportunity to wrap the exhaust. Not the whole lot, as I understand there’s a risk of overheating, just the metre or so directly under the driver’s seat box. Mine always got really hot, with heat transferring to the handbrake lever and into the cabin, unbearable on occasion. Well, after a 2500km round trip to the UK, with almost all of it on motorways at 70mph, I can say that the wrap excelled itself. No heat on the lever, no heat in the cabin. Bought the kit on eBay, choosing the widest wrap possible, and took about a quarter of an hour to fit. I could not recommend it enough. Another long trip (2500km round trip to Mallorca) beckons next week, in slightly hotter climes, I’ll update this thread if it continues to be a success or if I experience any other problems. ![]() Click image to enlarge Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

they'll be stainless cable ties. the kits normally come with them.
FWIW, you can also use stainless lockwire. I've wrapped a few manifolds on racecars, and usually used lockwire for any fiddly bits, and the stainless cable ties for the bigger more straightforward stuff. looks good Mr Grenadier, I may well borrow the idea. |

Although it looks nice and functions well as an insulator to heat, keep in mind that it will promote corrosion. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Valid point - particularly in the salty roads of NE Scotland.
Might be something to apply for longer holiday trips. |

@Grenadier how are you getting on with the wrap?
I'm considering doing mine as my drivers side seat box and transmission tunnel is really hot. |

While I see your point... Would have thought any moisture would get cooked out pretty effectively! With the risk of overheating, doesn't keeping the heat in the exhaust make it more efficient at getting the hot air out the back? |

Unfortunately I speak from experience. I do not know the reason, if it was moisture or the heat. But as soon as I unwrapped the insulation it was a rusty mess. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing
